VIDEO: Learn to Knit. Long-Tail Cast-On (Casting On with Two Yarns)

Watch the video: Knitting – Long-Tail Cast-On

This video tutorial explains how to knit, specifically how to cast on stitches using two yarns (also known as the long-tail cast-on method). To cast on, you need to drape the working yarn over the index finger of your left hand, then pick up the yarn from below. Now turn the needles counterclockwise and slip the resulting loop onto your thumb. Bring both yarns together, place them in the center of your palm, and hold them with three fingers.

Then, take two knitting needles in your right hand and insert them from bottom to top into the loop on your thumb. Catch the working yarn from your index finger, pull it through the loop, and tighten the knot. This way, you have made your first stitch on the needles.

Now, without dropping the yarn from your fingers, turn your palm towards yourself and make the second stitch. That is, bring the needles under the yarn on your thumb again. After that, catch the working yarn on your index finger from above. Pull the yarn through the loop and tighten the knot on the needles.
