Knitting the Cable Top

Brown Cable Knit Top - body pieces with measurements

Back: using 6 mm needles, cast on (89) 95 sts with beige yarn and work in rib between selvage sts, following the color sequence, starting with 1 purl row.

After 14 cm = 33 rows from the cast-on edge, switch to 7 mm needles, redistributing sts and increasing (7) 9 sts evenly in row 1: selvage st, (35) 39 sts in fancy pattern, 24 sts in cable pattern, (35) 39 sts in fancy pattern, selvage st = (96) 104 sts.

After (22) 23 cm from the rib, work the sts of the fancy pattern in large moss stitch instead. At the same time, increase 8 x 1 st on both sides every 6th row, working the increased sts into the pattern.

After (43.5) 46 cm from the rib, bind off all sts in pattern.

The center (40) 42 sts form the neckline, and (36) 39 sts on each side form the shoulders.

Front: work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline. To do this, after (16) 17.5 cm from the start of the moss stitch, bind off the center (18) 20 sts and, every 2nd row, bind off 3 x 2 sts and then 3 x 1 st.

Bind off the remaining shoulder sts at the same height as the back.

Finishing

Sew the shoulder seams.

Around the neckline, using circular needles, pick up (90) 100 sts with beige yarn and work in rib, following the color sequence, starting with 1 purl row. After 17 cm, bind off all sts.

For the armhole bands, using 6 mm needles, pick up (73) 77 sts with beige yarn along the top (22) 23.5 cm of the front and back, and work in rib between selvage sts.

After 2 cm from the start of the bands, bind off all sts knitwise.

Sew the side seams and the armhole band seams.
