Sizes: 50/52 (54/56)

You will need:

  • 600 (650) g of linen-color yarn and 50 g of indigo yarn (53% cotton, 32% sheep’s wool, 15% polyamide, 220 m/50 g);
  • circular needles, 2 mm and 2.5 mm.

Rib, 2 mm needles: alternate 2 knit, 2 purl.

Color sequence for the rib: 3 rows indigo, 18 rows linen, 2 rows indigo.

Work all following patterns in linen-color yarn on 2.5 mm needles.

Stockinette stitch: right-side rows – knit; wrong-side rows – purl.

Reverse stockinette stitch:

Cable 1, 15 sts wide.

Rows 1-8, 10-18, and 20: stockinette stitch.

Row 9: place 5 sts on a cable needle and hold behind the work, k5, then knit the sts from the cable needle, k5.

Row 19: k5, place 5 sts on a cable needle and hold in front of the work, k5, then knit the sts from the cable needle.

Repeat rows 1-20.

Cable 2, 15 sts wide: work as Cable 1, but work rows 11-20 once, then repeat rows 1-20.

Cable 3, 6 sts wide. Rows 1-6 and 8: stockinette stitch.

Row 7: place 3 sts on a cable needle and hold behind the work, k3, then knit the sts from the cable needle.

Repeat rows 1-8.

Cable 4, 6 sts wide: work as Cable 3, but on row 7 hold the sts in front of the work.

Patent stitch. Right-side rows: knit the stitch together with its yarn over (row 1: k1). Wrong-side rows: slip the stitch with the yarn over as if to knit.

Striped pattern, 5 sts wide: 2 sts reverse stockinette, 1 patent st, 2 sts reverse stockinette.

Main pattern: ***3 sts reverse stockinette, * 15 sts Cable 1, 5 sts striped pattern, 6 sts Cable 3, 5 sts striped pattern, 6 sts Cable 4, 5 sts striped pattern **15 sts Cable 2, 3 sts reverse stockinette, repeat from ***

Pattern sequence for the sleeves: 42 sts of the main pattern from * to 15 sts of Cable 2, 42 sts of the main pattern from ** to end. Gauge for the combined pattern: 32.5 sts and 42 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Front: cast on 180 (182) sts and work 6 cm in rib following the color sequence, increasing evenly on the last row to 201 (213) sts + 2 selvage sts. Then work as follows: selvage st, 6 (12) sts reverse stockinette, 189 sts of main pattern, 6 (12) sts reverse stockinette, selvage st.

At a total length of 40 cm, bind off for the armholes on both sides: 6 sts, then every 2nd row 1×4, 6×2, and 7 (8)x1 sts. At a total length of 47 cm, bind off the center stitch for the V-neck and finish both sides separately. For the neckline slant, bind off from the inner edge every 2nd row 31×1 sts.

At the same time, at a total length of 67.5 cm, bind off for the shoulder slope on both sides 10 (11) sts, then every 2nd row for sizes 50/52 bind off 2×20 and 1×11 sts, for sizes 54/56 bind off 1×11 and 2×12 sts = 69 cm total length.

Back: work the same way, but at a total length of 67.5 cm bind off the center 43 sts for the neckline, and at the neck edge every 2nd row bind off 2×5 sts.

Sleeves: cast on 68 sts and work 6 cm in rib following the color sequence, increasing evenly on the last row to 99 sts + 2 selvage sts. Then work in the pattern sequence given above. For the sleeve slant, increase on both sides alternately every 5th and 6th row 24×1 sts in reverse stockinette, and every 5th row 8×1 sts in reverse stockinette. At a total length of 48 cm, bind off for the sleeve cap on both sides 6 sts, then every 2nd row 4×4, 14×2, 6×4 sts, and bind off the remaining stitches in one step = 60 cm total length.

Finishing: sew the shoulder seams; pick up the appropriate number of stitches around the neckline and work 4 circular rows of rib in indigo, 6 circular rows in linen, 3 circular rows in indigo, then bind off. At the point of the V, work the 2 center stitches as follows: on each circular row, knit the 1st center stitch together with the previous stitch, and work the 2nd center stitch together with the following stitch through a slip-knit-pass-over decrease (slip 1 as if to knit, k1, pass the slipped stitch over). Fold the sleeves in half and sew them in. Sew the remaining seams.
