Size: 36-40

You will need:

  • 400 g of yarn such as Schachenmayr Scarlett (33% wool, 22% polyacrylic, 21% polyester, 14% polyamide, 10% alpaca, 120 m/50 g);
  • straight knitting needles, 6-7 mm;
  • circular needles, 6-7 mm, 40 cm long.

Garter stitch: knit every row, both right side and wrong side rows.

Rib: alternate 2 knit, 2 purl sts.

Checkerboard pattern: alternate 2 knit sts, 2 purl sts, shifting the pattern after every 2 rows.

Stockinette stitch: RS row – knit, WS row – purl.

Fancy pattern: work according to the chart, which shows only the RS rows; on WS rows work the stitches as they appear.

Work all unmarked stitches in stockinette stitch.

For the back: work the shaded 21 sts from row 1 to row 8 four times = 32 rows, then work rows 1 to 80, after which continually repeat rows 73 to 80; for the front: work rows 1 to 80 once, then continually repeat rows 73 to 80.

Back:

Cast on 75 sts, work 1 WS row in knit and 2 rows in purl.

Continue in the following sequence: selvage st, 26 sts stockinette stitch, 21 sts fancy pattern per chart, 26 sts stockinette stitch, selvage st.

At the same time, for the side shaping, decrease 2 x 2 sts on both sides after 8 rows.

To do this, mark the middle 4 sts of the 26 stockinette sts with a marker and on these stitches work 1 slipped-stitch decrease (slip 1 st as if to knit, k1, and pass the slipped st over) and k2tog.

Repeat these decreases in the same places 3 more times every 8th row = 18 stockinette sts each side, or 59 sts total.

After row 15 of the chart there are 60 sts on the needle, after row 39 = 66 sts, after row 47 = 67 sts.

At a height of 42 cm, on chart row 51, for the armhole shape bind off 1 x 3 sts on both sides, then bind off 3 x 1 st every 2nd row = 55 sts.

After chart row 69 there are 53 sts remaining on the needle.

At a height of 62 cm, for the neckline, bind off the middle 27 sts straight across, and on each side bind off 1 x 2 sts and 1 x 1 st every 2nd row.

At a height of 66 cm, bind off the remaining 10 shoulder sts straight across.

Front:

Cast on 88 sts, work 1 WS row in knit and 2 rows in purl, then continue in the following sequence: selvage st, 26 sts stockinette stitch, 34 sts rib (starting with 2 purl sts), 26 sts stockinette stitch, selvage st.

At the same time, work the side shaping decreases within the stockinette section as on the back = 72 sts.

At a height of approximately 17.5 cm, after row 31 of stockinette stitch, or in a WS row of the rib on the middle 34 sts, decrease 13 sts; to do this, work 4 sts as before, work 6 x p2tog, the middle 2 sts together as k2tog, 6 x p2tog, and 4 sts as before = middle 21 sts, or 59 sts total.

Now continue in the fancy pattern as indicated.

At a height of 58 cm, for the neckline, on a WS row bind off the middle 19 sts straight across, and on each side decrease 7 x 1 st every 2nd row.

To do this, when working the right half, work to 3 sts before the neckline, then k2tog, selvage st; when working the left half, after the selvage st work 1 slipped-stitch decrease.

At a height of 66 cm, bind off the remaining 10 shoulder sts straight across.

Sleeve:

Cast on 4 sts and work 1 WS row in purl, then work in checkerboard pattern, at the same time increase 8 x 2 new sts on both sides every 2nd row = 36 sts.

For the tube-shaped sleeve, bind off 4 x 1 st on both sides every 8th row = 28 sts.

At a height of 24 cm (measured at the middle of the sleeve), for the sleeve shaping increase 1 x 1 st on both sides, then increase 6 x 1 st every 6th row = 42 sts.

At a height of 48 cm (measured at the middle of the sleeve), for the sleeve cap bind off 1 x 3 sts on both sides, then bind off 3 x 1 st every 4th row and 7 x 1 st and 1 x 2 sts every 2nd row, then bind off the remaining 12 sts.

Work the second sleeve the same way.

Finishing the pullover:

Smooth out the pieces and let them dry under a damp towel.

Sew all seams and set in the sleeves.

For the neckline band and collar, pick up stitches on the circular needles, starting at the right edge of the front fancy pattern and picking up 14 sts along the bound-off edge of the fancy pattern, then pick up 68 sts along the remaining neckline = 82 sts.

Work all stitches for 2 rounds in purl.

Then work 1 round in knit, binding off the middle 14 sts of the front neckline = 68 sts.

Continue in rib, starting the 1st WS row with selvage st and 2 purl sts and ending with 2 purl sts and selvage st.

At a collar height of 3 cm, bind off all stitches.
