- 74 g of non-felting wool yarn (approx. 183 meters per skein);
- one set of 5 double-pointed needles, 3.5 mm (or size needed to obtain gauge);
- a tapestry needle.
Gauge: 24 sts and 34 rows = 10 cm in stockinette stitch on 3.5 mm needles.
Mitten Knitting Instructions:
Each mitt is made of two motifs: one small star and one large star.
The motifs are knitted in the round following the chart, with each round of the chart repeated 5 times around. The gap between the motifs is repeated or worked separately on a spare needle.
Mark the beginning of the round.
Small Star:
Cast on 5 sts using circular cast-on, join, and place a marker, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Chart 1:
Using the circular cast-on round, work following Chart 1, repeating the round 5 times around. When 21 rows of the chart are complete, bind off loosely.
Large Star:
Cast on 5 sts using circular cast-on, join, and place a marker, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Chart 2:
Using the circular cast-on round, work following Chart 2, repeating the round 5 times around. When 25 rows of the chart are complete, bind off loosely.
Finishing:
Pin the wet motifs in place. Using a tapestry needle and yarn, sew the large and small stars together at the point marked “D” on the chart.
Fold these pieces in half and sew the marked projecting parts together to form the mitts.
Fold the top corners to form openings for the thumb and remaining fingers, and sew in the necessary places.
