Sizes: 40/42 (44/46) 48/50
You will need: 200 g each of brown, gray and beige Silk Wool yarn (64% sheep’s wool, 27% silk, 9% polyamide, 120 m/50 g); straight 6 mm needles; 5 mm circular needles; 5 brown buttons.
Rib: number of stitches divisible by 4 + 2 selvage sts.
RS row: selvage st, * k1, p2, k1, repeat from *, selvage st.
WS row: work all stitches as they appear.
Mesh pattern: number of stitches divisible by 4 + 2 selvage sts.
Begin and end every row with 1 selvage st.
Row 1: * k2tog, yo twice, ssk (= slip 1 st as if to knit, k1, and pass the slipped st over), repeat from *.
Rows 2 and 4: purl all stitches and yarn overs; for the double yarn over, knit the first yo and purl the second yo.
Row 3: * yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, repeat from *.
Repeat rows 1 through 4.
Gauge: 14.5 sts and 22.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Back: with brown yarn, cast on 78 (86) 94 sts and work 5 cm in rib. Then work in mesh pattern. After 19.5 cm = 44 rows from the rib, switch to gray yarn and continue in mesh pattern; after 39 cm = 88 rows from the rib, switch to beige yarn and continue in mesh pattern. After 6 cm = 14 rows (3.5 cm = 8 rows) 1 cm = 2 rows from the color change, bind off 2 sts on both sides for the armholes, then 2 sts every 2nd row twice = 66 (74) 82 sts. After 26 cm = 58 rows from the color change, bind off the center 36 sts for the neckline and complete both sides separately. After 27.5 cm = 62 rows from the color change, bind off the remaining 15 (19) 23 shoulder sts on each side.
Left front: with brown yarn, cast on 39 (43) 47 sts and work 5 cm in rib, ending with 1 extra knit st and 1 selvage st. Then work in mesh pattern, ending as in the rib with k1 + selvage st. Work the color sequence as for the back, and shape the armhole on the right side as for the back = 33 (37) 41 sts. After 18 cm = 40 rows from the color change, bind off 13 sts on the left side for the neckline, then 2 sts and 1 st alternately every 2nd row. At the same height as the back, bind off the remaining 15 (19) 23 shoulder sts.
Right front: work to match, reversing shaping.
Sleeves: with brown yarn, cast on 46 (54) 62 sts and work 5 cm in rib. Then work in mesh pattern with gray yarn. After 10.5 cm = 24 rows from the rib, increase 1 st on both sides for the sleeve shaping, then 1 st every 18th row = 50 (58) 66 sts, working the increased sts into the pattern.
After 20.5 cm = 46 rows from the rib, switch to beige yarn and continue in mesh pattern. After 6 cm = 14 rows from the color change, bind off 3 sts on both sides for the sleeve cap, then 12 x 1 and 1 x 2 sts every 2nd row (2 x 2, 9 x 1 and 2 x 2 sts) 3 x 2, 6 x 1 and 4 x 2 sts. After 13.5 cm = 42 rows from the color change, bind off the remaining 16 (18) 20 sts.
Finishing: sew the shoulder seams. Pick up 108 sts along the neckline with brown yarn on circular needles and work a rib band, beginning and ending with 2 knit sts. At a band height of 3 cm, bind off all sts in pattern. Along the front edges, including the short sides of the neckband, pick up 140 sts each with brown yarn and work rib bands, also beginning and ending between selvage sts with 2 knit sts. At a height of 1 cm, work 5 buttonholes on the right front band: bind off 2 sts and cast them on again in the next row. Work the 1st buttonhole 3 sts from the top edge, and space the remaining 4 buttonholes 18 sts apart. At a band height of 3 cm, bind off all sts in pattern. Set in the sleeves, sew the side seams and sleeve seams. Sew on the buttons.
