Stitch Patterns and Charts

Border Stitch Pattern

When working in rows back and forth, work on a starting chain multiple of 4 + 1, following Chart 1.

Begin every row with the number of turning chains shown on the chart instead of the first stitch, and with the stitches before the repeat; repeat the pattern repeat continuously, and end with the stitches after the repeat.

Important: work row 2 as follows: after 3 turning ch, *work 1 tr into the next 4th stitch of the base, 3 ch, then 3 dc over the tr; repeat from * continuously.

For row 3, work 4 turning ch, *1 tr over the 3rd ch of the previous row (see also arrow on chart), 3 ch, 3 dc over the tr; repeat from * continuously, end with 1 tr

into the 3rd ch of the previous row.

In row 4, work sc continuously over the 3rd ch of the previous row.

Work the rows in height as described in the text.

When working in rounds, follow Chart 2 on a starting number of stitches multiple of 4.

Begin every round with the number of turning chains shown on the chart for height or instead of the first stitch. Start with the stitches before the repeat, repeat the pattern repeat continuously, and end with the stitches before the start of the round and 1 slip st, as shown on the chart.

After round 1, move to the start of the next round with a slip st.

Work rounds 1 and 2 following the same principle as rows 2 and 3 described for working the pattern in rows back and forth.

Work rows/rounds 1-4 once.

Important: for better clarity, the last round of the skirt is shown below the chart.

Instructions

Skirt

For the bottom band, make a starting chain of 141 (153) ch + 3 turning ch, work

rows 1-5 once in border stitch pattern. Height of bottom band: 8.5 cm = 5 rows.

Mark the middle 12 dc of the bottom band; they form the edge for attaching the front insert and remain unworked from here on.

Sew the short sides of the bottom band together = back center seam.

To continue the skirt, join yarn on the wrong side of the work at the top edge of the bottom band after the 12 marked dc, and starting with 1 wrong-side row, work the top edge in border stitch pattern all the way across the back panel to the 12 marked dc, working rows 6 and 7 once, then rows 2-7 once, after which repeat rows 6 and 7 continuously = 129 (141) sts.

In row 20 (22) from the bottom band, evenly decrease 25 sts for the waistline. To do this, skip every 5th stitch (alternating every 5th and 6th st) of the previous row = 104 (116) sts.

End the work after 30 cm = 20 rows (33 cm = 22 rows) from the bottom band.

Insert

Make a starting chain of 45 (49) ch + 3 turning ch, work in border stitch pattern, working rows 1-5 once.

Sew the insert into the front panel opening of the skirt, easing slightly if necessary; sew the right short side to the attachment edge of the bottom band.

Join yarn to the top edge of the skirt at the last dc before the left short side of the insert, work 12 sc along the short side, and join yarn to the first dc after the insert = 116 (128) sts for the top edge of the skirt.

Do not cut the yarn; begin working the waist belt here.

Waist Belt

Work the top edge of the skirt in border stitch pattern in rounds = 29 (32) pattern repeats. End after 8 cm = 4 rounds.

Distribute the stitches of the top edge of the waist belt as follows: mark the middle 3 repeats above the front insert, or 12 dc, + 2 (3) dc on each side = 16 (18) dc for the front neckline. On both sides of these markers, mark 21 (23) dc for the upper right and left front parts. The remaining 58 (64) dc are for the back.

Work all pieces separately to the end.

Back

Work the marked 58 (64) dc in border stitch pattern in rows back and forth, starting with 1 wrong-side row and repeating only rows 6 and 7 continuously.

At the same time, increase 1 st for symmetry (= join yarn at 1 dc, work 3 turning ch and work 1 dc into the same base stitch) = 59 (65) sts.

At a back height of 13 cm = 9 rows, decrease 1 x 6 sts on both sides for the armholes. To do this, pass over these stitches at the beginning of the row with a slip st, and leave unworked at the end of the row = 47 (53) sts.

At a back height of 28.5 cm = 20 rows (31.5 cm = 22 rows), end the work. The middle 19 (21) dc form the neckline, the outer 14 (16) dc are for the start of the placket and shoulders.

Upper Left Front Part

Work on the 21 (23) marked dc in front of the center front in border stitch pattern in rows back and forth, starting with 1 wrong-side row and repeating only rows 6 and 7.

For the neckline slope, decrease from the start of the piece 9 (10) x 1 st in every 2nd row (= every right-side row). To do this, work the last 2 dc before the neckline together.

Work the armhole on the right edge the same as on the back.

At the back height, end the work on the remaining 6 (7) dc of the shoulder.

Upper Right Front Part

Work the same as the upper left front part, but mirrored, working 9 (10) x 2 dc together after the 3 turning ch in every 2nd row for the neckline.

Neckline Placket

(2 pieces)

For each piece, make a starting chain of 41 ch, work 1 right-side row in sc. Then work rows 2-4 of the border stitch pattern once, and finish with 1 row of sc. Height of placket: 6.5 cm.

Finishing

Sew the shoulder seams on 6 (7) sts. Sew the side seams.

Place the neckline plackets right sides together and baste the last row to the neckline slope, then join both edges with slip st.

Sew the top short side to the remaining 8 (9) dc of the back shoulder, sew the bottom short side to the horizontal opening up to the middle.

Work the bottom edge of the skirt in row 6 of the border stitch pattern, working it as a right-side row, and finish with 1 slip st into the 3rd turning ch.
