You Will Need
- yarn (60% polyester, 25% linen, 15% viscose, 35 m/50 g): 100 g each of blue and lime, 50 g of peach
- 5 mm and 5.5 mm crochet hooks
- 1 pair of rope soles, size 37
- 1 spool of beige thread
- 10 small tin rings, 13/18 mm diameter
- 2 large tin rings, 18/23 mm diameter
Instructions
Toe
Ch 3 with a 5 mm hook in blue yarn.
Row 1: ch 1, 3 sc.
Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 st = 5 sc.
Row 3: ch 1, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 1 sc = 7 sc.
Row 4: ch 1, 1 hdc, 5 sc, 1 hdc = 7 sts.
Row 5: ch 2, 1 hdc, 2 sc in 1 st, 3 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 1 hdc = 9 sts.
Row 6: ch 2, 1 hdc, 7 sc, 1 hdc = 9 sts.
Row 7: ch 2, 1 hdc, 2 sc in 1 st, 5 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 1 hdc = 11 sts.
Rows 8-9 (lime): ch 2, 1 hdc, 9 sc, 1 hdc = 11 sts.
Row 10: ch 2, 1 hdc, 2 sc in 1 st, 7 sc, 2 sc in 1st st, 1 hdc = 13 sts.
Rows 11-13: ch 2, 1 hdc, 11 sc, 1 hdc = 13 sts.
Round 14: 16 sl st along the top edge, 29 sl st along each side of the pointed edge, close the round with 1 sl st into the 1st sl st.
Work the second toe piece the same way.
Half Heel
(Make 2 pieces for each espadrille)
Ch 1 with a 5.5 mm hook in blue.
Row 1: ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st.
Row 2: ch 1, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 st = 3 sc.
Row 3: ch 1, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 1 sc = 4 sc.
Row 4: ch 1, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 2 sc = 5 sc.
Row 5: ch 1, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 3 sc = 6 sc.
Rows 6-8: ch 1, 6 sc.
Row 9: ch 1, 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 4 sc = 7 sc.
Row 10: ch 1, 7 sc.
Rows 11-12 (lime): ch 1, 7 sc.
Row 13: ch 1, 5 sc, 2 sc in 1 st, 1 sc = 8 sc.
Rows 14-18: ch 1, 8 sc.
Row 19 (blue): ch 1, 6 sc, skip 1 st, 1 sc = 7 sc.
Rows 20-22: ch 1, 7 sc.

Finishing
For each espadrille, sew the two heel halves together along the last row with mattress stitch in lime, folding them into a round heel. Embroider the heel seam (the center) with three cross stitches in blue thread.
Single crochet around the lower and upper edges of the heels with a 5.5 mm hook in matching color, 30 sc each, then work 1 more row of sl st in matching color around the upper edge only.
Embroider the 3rd green row from the edge of each toe piece with 3 cross stitches in blue thread.
Embroider the color border line on the toes with 1 row of backstitch in peach thread.
Join 5 small tin rings with knots using blue thread for each piece. Sew the bottom ring to the center of the last row of each toe piece. Sew 1 large ring to the center of the upper edge of each heel.
Sew the toe pieces and heels to the soles with blanket stitch.
With a 5 mm hook and lime yarn, make a chain of 120 ch for each espadrille, then 3 sc into the upper small ring, then another 120 ch. Attach a 4-strand, 6 cm tassel to each end of the chain. Thread both ends of the chain through the large ring on the heel.
