This is an easy design for beginners who want to embroider grapes in satin stitch. It combines two satin stitch techniques: the leaves are worked in thread painting (needle painting), while the grapes are done in padded satin stitch to give them a more three-dimensional look. The curling tendrils on the leaves are worked in chain stitch.

What You’ll Need to Embroider Grapes in Satin Stitch
- Fabric for embroidery. This can be even-weave fabric, linen, or cotton, depending on your preference.
- Thread (embroidery floss, cotton, or wool)
- Choose your needle to match the fabric and thread thickness. If you’re embroidering on even-weave fabric, use a blunt-tipped tapestry needle. For linen or cotton, use a sharp-pointed embroidery needle.
- An embroidery hoop, scissors, and a thimble.
- Carbon transfer paper, or other tools to transfer the design onto the fabric.

Below is the recommended color palette for the threads, but you can also choose your own:
No. 1 – very pale lilac, No. 2 – light lilac, No. 3 – light purple, No. 4 – purple, No. 5 – light green, No. 6 – green, No. 7 – emerald green, No. 8 – light brown.
