Ribbed Baby Hat with Earflaps

Ribbed Baby Hat with Earflaps - worn by a baby

You will need:

  • 100 g of yarn;
  • 2.5 mm needles;
  • a pompom maker.

1×1 rib (k1, p1).

“Cable” pattern from chart 2

Stockinette stitch

Gauge: 29 sts x 40 rows = 10×10 cm.

Knitting the Hat

Cast on 98 sts on 2.5 mm needles and work 6-7 cm in 1×1 rib. Then switch to 3 mm needles and work 12-14 cm following chart 2. Next, to shape the crown of the hat, knit two stitches together in each purl column every 2 rows. Hide the remaining purl stitch under the “cable” by knitting one cable stitch together with the purl stitch.

Work two more rows, then thread all stitches onto a yarn strand, gather, and fasten off.

For the “earflaps,” cast on 23 sts and work 5 cm in 1×1 rib. To shape the point, knit two stitches together on each side on every knit row. Knit the last 3 stitches together as one knit stitch. Make a cord from yarn and sew it to the ends of the “earflaps.” Tuck the “earflaps” inside the hat under the brim (see color photo).

Make a pompom and attach it to the crown of the hat.
