Working and Finishing the Dress

Description. The garment measurements, placement of patterns and direction of work are shown on the schematic. Begin working the bodice from the bottom up. Work the back and front together as one piece. Chain 288 sts, join into a ring, then work in rounds in the stitch pattern from chart 1, repeating rows 6 and 7. The first 3 rows form the band for the belt. After 18 cm from the starting edge, work the front (126 sts) and back (108 sts) separately, shaping the armholes. To do this, decrease 27 sts at the armhole points in one row.

Back. Work, decreasing on both sides to shape the armholes every 2nd row by 2 x 3 sts. After 11 cm from the start of the armholes, shape the neckline. To do this, decrease 30 sts in the center in one row. Work each shoulder separately, decreasing on the neckline side every 2nd row by 2 x 3 sts, and finish the shoulder (27 sts) after 20 cm from the start of the armholes. Work the second shoulder the same way, but mirrored.

Front. Start and work as for the back. After 3 cm from the start of the armholes, shape the neckline by decreasing 6 sts in the center of the piece in one row. Work each shoulder separately, decreasing on the neckline side every 2nd row by 9 x 3 sts, and finish the shoulder (27 sts) after 20 cm from the start of the armholes. Work the second shoulder the same way, but mirrored.

Dress hem. Begin working it from the bodice downward in the stitch pattern from chart 2 (18 pattern repeats fit around, rows 5 through 7 are repeated). Work even, and after 43 cm from the starting edge add gores to widen the skirt (2 in front and 2 in back). See chart 2 (from row 9) for how to do this. Once the hem reaches the desired length, finish the piece.

Finishing. Sew the shoulder seams. Edge the neckline and armholes following chart 5. Crochet the flowers and leaves from charts 3 and 4 and use them to decorate the neckline. Thread the ribbon belt through the row of filet mesh to cinch the waist to the desired size.
