Tutorial on how to work the stitch on a post used in the lace pattern.

Double crochet (dc)

Rows worked back and forth: begin each row with 3 turning chains instead of the first dc and finish with 1 dc into the 3rd chain of the turning chain of the previous row.

In rounds: begin each round with 3 turning chains instead of the first dc and finish with 1 slip stitch into the 3rd chain of the turning chain.

Stripe Pattern

Work in rounds. Starting number of stitches is a multiple of 5.

Round 1: * 1 sc, 5 ch, skip 4 sts of the previous row, repeat from * continuously, finish with 1 slip stitch into the 1st sc of the round.

Rounds 2-5: work 1 sc into each sc, with 6 ch between them. Rounds 6-9: work as rounds 2-5, but with 7 ch between the sc sts.

Rounds 10-13: work as rounds 2-5, but with 8 ch between the sc sts.

Pattern Sequence 1

17 rows of cross stitch pattern,

1 row of single crochet (sc),

3 rows of double crochet (dc),

12 rows of lace pattern,

2 rows of single crochet (sc) = 34 rows.

Pattern Sequence 2

3 rows of double crochet (dc),

10 rows of leaf pattern,

5 rows of double crochet (dc),

4 rows of cross stitch pattern,

3 rows of double crochet (dc) = 25 rows.

Gauge

19 starting sts x 9 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in cross stitch pattern,

18.5 starting sts x 7.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in lace pattern,

19 starting sts x 7.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in leaf pattern,

19 sts x 8.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in double crochet (dc),

1 repeat of the stripe pattern in round 13 = 3.75 cm,

14.5 rounds = 10 cm.

Note: First crochet the bodice, then work the skirt from top to bottom. Work the sleeves from top to bottom. The arrows on the schematic indicate the direction of work.

The measurements on the schematic were partly obtained by measuring the model.

Instructions

Back

For the bodice, make a chain of 69 ch + 1 turning chain and work according to pattern sequence 1, increasing 1 st in the last dc row = 71 sts.

After 14.5 cm = 11 rows from the start of working pattern 2, leave 6 cm unworked on both sides for the shoulders. Work the last 2 rows of the pattern sequence across all stitches again.

After 40.5 cm from the starting row (= end of pattern sequence 1), finish the piece.

Then for the skirt, work along the starting row according to pattern sequence 2, and in row 2 of the 1st stripe of pattern 4, increase 12 sts evenly = 81 sts.

In row 1 of the 2nd stripe of pattern 4, work 81 dc; in row 3, increase 4 sts evenly = 85 sts.

In row 1 of the 3rd stripe of pattern 4, work 86 dc; in row 3, increase 6 sts evenly = 92 sts.

After 31 cm from the start of the skirt (= end of pattern sequence 2), finish the piece.

Front

Work as for the back, but with a neckline. For this, on the bodice, after 4 cm of working in lace pattern, leave the middle 5 cm unworked and finish both sides separately.

For shaping the inner edge, decrease 4 x 1 cm in each following row. On the remaining shoulder stitches, finish at the same height as the back.

Sleeves

For each sleeve, make a chain of 80 ch and work in lace pattern. At the same time, over the next 23 cm from the starting row, decrease 9.5 cm evenly on both sides for the slant.

We recommend making a full-size schematic, laying the work against it, and adjusting the decreases.

After 33 cm from the starting row, finish the piece.

Finishing

Sew the shoulder seams. Set in the sleeves, sew the side seams and sleeve seams.

Work 1 round of sc around the neckline.

Work the stripe pattern around the bottom edge, working 18 repeats each on the front and back = 36 repeats total.

After 9 cm of working in the stripe pattern, finish the piece.

Note: the stripe pattern initially pulls in slightly and widens as the height increases. This is shown as a slant on the schematic.
