Stitch Patterns and Charts
Main Stitch Pattern of the Top
Work in rounds from the top edge.
Row 1: Ch 3, back into the same stitch as the ch-3, work = 1 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc, skip 3 sts, *into the next stitch work 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc, skip 3 sts*, repeat from * to *, close the round with 1 sl st into the 3rd chain from the beginning of the round.
Row 2: Work 3 ch, 1 sl st, sl st over dc 1 sl st, then continue working as follows: 3 ch, into the ch-1 space work 1 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc.
Continue working into the ch-1 spaces around the round = 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc, close the round with 1 sl st into the 3rd chain from the beginning of the round.
Row 3 and Increase Row 1: at the marker work into the ch-1 space = 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc.
Row 4 and Increase Row 2: work into each of the 3 ch-1 spaces = 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc.
Row 5 and Increase Row 3: work into each chain space (around the entire round) = 2 dc, 1 ch, 2 dc.
Repeat these three increase rows until the top section of the garment is complete.
Gauge
Approximately 20 sts x 10 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in main stitch pattern with a 3 mm hook.
1 pattern repeat of the main stitch = 2 cm.
Instructions
The top is worked in the round from the top down, sleeve-first. Start from the top edge. Important: begin every round with 3 turning chains, which replace the first dc. End every round with 1 sl st into the 3rd chain from the beginning of the round.
With a 3.5 mm hook, make a starting loop and chain 176 (192) 208 (224) sts, 1 ch for turning, switch to a 3 mm hook and work back in the opposite direction with 1 sc into each chain = 176 (192) 208 (224) sc, close the round with 1 sl st into the turning chain. Then work in the round in the main stitch pattern = 44 (48) 52 (56) repeats. Place markers at the ch-1 spaces in 4 places for raglan increases = there should be 11 (23) 13 (14) repeats between markers. The beginning of the round is at the center back. Work the raglan increases as described above.
After working a total of 12 rows from the top edge worked in sc, divide the work into back/front and sleeves = 17 (18) 19 (20) repeats for each section.
Back/Front
Continue working on the back stitches to the 1st marker, chain 16 (20) 24 (28), skip the next section (= sleeve), continue working on the front stitches, chain 16 (20) 24 (28) and skip the last section (= sleeve). Continue working the front and back in the round in the main stitch pattern = 42 (46) 50 (54) repeats. Finish when the length of the garment measures 48 (50) 51 (52) cm from the top edge worked in sc.
Flower Yoke
Work with a 3 mm hook. Begin with the flower center. Make a starting loop and chain 5, join into a ring with 1 sl st into the starting loop.
Work in Rounds:
Round 1: into the ring, work (catching the yarn end) 1 sc, *3 ch, 1 sc*, repeat from * to * = 4 chain loops total.
Round 2: into each chain loop work 1 sc, 1 hdc, 4 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc = 4 petals.
Round 3: insert the hook through the back loop, work 2 ch to reach the middle of the bottom edge of the 1st petal, *work into the middle of the petal (into the center of the 4 dc) 1 sc into the ch loop of Round 1, 5 ch*, repeat from * to * = 4 chain loops.
Round 4: work into each 5-ch loop = 1 sc, 1 hdc, 6 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc = 4 petals.
Round 5: insert the hook through the back loop, work 2 ch to reach the middle of the 1st petal, *work into the middle of the petal (into the center of the 6 dc) 1 sc into the ch loop of Round 3,
4 ch*, repeat from * to *, close the round with 1 sl st into the sc of the 1st petal from the beginning of the round = 4 chain loops.
Round 6: work into each 4-ch loop = 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 5 ch for the “corner,” 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. Close the round with 1 sl st into the sc at the beginning of the round = 4 petals with 4 “corners.”
Join the flowers to each other at the “corners” with 1 sl st into the middle of the corner and into the middle of the 5-ch loop.
First work a round of flowers and join them into a ring = top round = approximately 19 (21) 23 (25) flowers = the width should match the width of the garment before the sleeve division (slightly stretched). Then work the following rounds = a total of 6 (6) 7 (7) rows of flower yoke.
Finishing
Place the yoke over the top section of the top, right side facing out, and sew it in place.
Edging
With a 2 mm hook, work a round of “crab stitch” around the bottom edge of the top and the sleeve edges = 1 row of sc worked in reverse direction (the edging should lie flat – do not pucker or pull the fabric).
