Patterns and Charts

Shell Stitch Pattern

The number of chain stitches for the foundation chain must be a multiple of 8, plus 1, plus 2 turning ch instead of the 1st dc. Continue working according to Chart A.

Start with the ch instead of the 1st stitch and with the stitches before the repeat; repeat the pattern repeat continuously, and end with the stitches after the repeat. The stitches before and after the repeat count as 1 repeat.

Work rows 1–4 once, then repeat rows 3 and 4.

Increases of ½ repeat

Work according to Chart B.

Increases of 1 repeat

Work again on both sides according to Chart C: in the row before the increase row, make a chain of 8 ch, which is worked into with an extra repeat in the following row. To do this, after the turning ch instead of the 1st stitch, make an extra chain of 8 ch, then turn the work and work 8 sl st along the chain, work the row according to the pattern, and at the end make another chain of 8 ch.

Basic Pattern in Rounds

Work in hdc, starting each round with 2 ch instead of the 1st hdc, and ending with 1 sl st into the 2nd turning ch.

Gauge

6 repeats x 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in shell stitch pattern.

Instructions

Bottoms

Start with the back piece: make a chain of 33 (41) 41 ch and work in shell stitch pattern (= 4 (5) 5 repeats in row 1). For the side curve, increase on both sides, starting from row 2, 6 (8) 10 times by ½ repeat in every row, 5 times by ½ repeat in every 3rd row, and 2 times by ½ repeat in every row; then in the following row increase on both sides by 1 full repeat. After 25 (27) 29 rows from the foundation row, there will be 19 (22) 24 repeats in the work. Now work the front piece directly along the foundation row of the back piece, starting the shell stitch pattern from row 2. For the side curve, decrease on both sides in row 3 by ½ repeat: to do this, skip the first 3 stitches at the beginning of the row with sl st, and leave the last 3 stitches unworked at the end of the row. Then work 6 rows straight. In the following row, increase on both sides by ½ repeat, and in every 3rd row 3 times by ½ repeat, then in every row 3 (5) 7 times by ½ repeat and 3 times by 1 full repeat. At the same time, in row 25 (27) 29 (= the last increase row), join the front and back pieces of the bottoms at the beginning of the row after the turning ch for the 1st stitch with 1 sl st; then work the row, and at the end, before the last stitch, attach the yarn with 1 sl st to the back piece so that the front and back pieces join into a round.

Then work 1 wrong-side round over the 16 (19) 21 repeats of the front piece and 19 (22) 24 repeats of the back piece in shell stitch pattern; finish the round with 1 sl st into the 4th turning ch. Finally, work 2 more rounds in the basic pattern.

Finishing

Along the leg openings, work 1 round in the basic pattern and 1 round in shell stitch pattern. If needed, thread elastic through the top round of hdc.

Work the cups diagonally downward from the top edge.

For one cup, make a chain of 7 (8) 9 ch + 4 ch (= 1st tr), then work as follows:
