Work in rounds following the chart. Begin each round with 1 ch, and accordingly 4 turning chains in place of the first sc or the first tr, and finish with 1 sl st into the last turning chain.
Work rounds 1-3 once, following the corresponding color sequence.

Pattern Pieces

Instructions
Back
Make 15 (24) squares in color sequences 1-6 and, starting from the 2nd square, join them according to the chart and pattern piece, arranging a random layout of the different colored squares.
Join into a strip: 3 x 5 (4 x 6) squares. Work around the strip’s perimeter with 1 round of chain-loop arches in mallow yarn = round a on the chart.
Then work over the squares in the main pattern with mallow yarn. To do this, in the first row work 3 dc into each chain arch and 2 dc on each side = 76 (91) sts.
After 4 cm from the start of the main pattern, leave unworked 1 x 3 sts on each side, then in every row 3 x 2 sts = 58 (73) sts.
After 18 cm from the start of the main pattern, leave the center 34 (35) sts unworked for the neckline and finish both sides separately.
After 21 cm from the start of the main pattern, finish off on the remaining 12 (19) shoulder sts.
Front
Work as for the back, but with a deeper neckline. To do this, after 4 cm from the main pattern, leave the center 12 (13) sts unworked; for shaping, leave unworked at the inner edge in each row 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 6 x 1 st.
Finishing
Sew the seams.
Work 1 round of crab stitch around the neckline and armholes in mallow yarn (work sc from left to right), skipping 1 dc consistently along the horizontal lines, and along the vertical lines, according to the curves, work 1 crab stitch into each edge dc.
Work 1 round of shells around the lower edge of the front and back in mallow yarn = round b on the chart.
Tip: if the symbols connect at the bottom, work the stitches into the same base stitch; if the symbols connect at the top, work the stitches together.
