Crocheting and Assembling the Dress
Description. Sizes, pattern placement, and work direction are shown on the schematic. The main yarn color is light gray. For an accurate fit to your size, we recommend making a full-size paper pattern and checking your piece against it as you work, making increases and decreases as needed. Start by crocheting the bodice, then work the skirt from the top down.
Bodice. Crochet 2 bodice cups following chart 1. Once they are the required size, join them corner to corner into one piece. The width of the bottom edge of one cup is 18 cm, and the bodice width should equal 36 cm.
Skirt. Along the lower edge of the bodice, work a row of arches of 6 chains, then crochet the skirt in the main “diagonal mesh” pattern following chart 2. The chart shows how to work the first row. As you work, increase 1 mesh cell on each side of every row (see chart 2, rows 4 through 6). When the width of the piece reaches 72 cm (in this version, 9 rows of arches have been worked), join the piece into a ring and continue working in rounds for 6 more rows of the “diagonal mesh” pattern. Then switch to single crochet, first working 1 row of arches of 6 chains (see chart 2, rows 8 and 9). To keep the pattern consistent going forward, work in rounds using straight and turning rows, joining each row with a slip stitch and working 1 chain to start the new row. To widen the side seams, make an increase every 2nd row by working 3 sts (10×2 sts) into 1 stitch. After working 15 cm (28 rows of sc in this version), on one side at the side seam, make a wedge-shaped point using the “diagonal mesh” pattern already used. To do this, decrease 1 st on each side of every row of the sc section, and work that row in the “diagonal mesh” pattern, adding stitches and mesh cells accordingly. At 52 cm from the lower edge of the bodice, crochet a border along the lower edge of the skirt in the main pattern from chart 2, 10 cm high. Chart 3 shows how to transition from the sc pattern to the “diagonal mesh” pattern. Edge the lower edge of the piece with rows 8 and 9 from chart 2, plus 1 more row of sc.
Finishing. Edge the top edge of the garment following chart 4. Using light gray yarn held double, crochet two straps about 1 m long (chains of ch sts). Sew one end of each to the bodice cups, and use them to tie and secure the garment at the back to the desired fit. Using the trim yarn, crochet the required number of motifs from charts 5, 6, and 7 and sew them onto the garment, arranging them into a composition. For the stem, crochet a chain of chain stitches. Decorate the composition with beads and sequins, sewing them into the flower centers and along the stem.
