Stitch Patterns and Charts

Shaping Armholes and Neckline

At the beginning of the row, work a slip stitch (sl st) over the number of stitches to be bound off, then start the new row.

At the end of the row, work to the stitches that need to be bound off, leave them unworked, and turn.

Important! If you need to bind off only 1 st at a time, work 2 dc together before the edge stitch. Begin each row with 2 turning chains instead of the 1st dc (in the instructions these count as 1 dc).

Gauge

19 dc x 10 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked with a 3 mm hook.

Attention! The gauge must match the one given! Before starting, work a swatch: chain 25 and work 11 rows of dc on it.

Then count the stitches over the middle 10 cm section of the swatch: if there are more than 20 stitches in this section, switch to a larger hook; if fewer, switch to a smaller hook. The main thing is that your gauge matches the given gauge in width. Work the garment with the same hook used for the swatch.

If only one number is given in the instructions, it applies to all sizes.

The garment is worked with 2 strands held together (= 1 strand of each yarn held together).

Instructions

Back and Fronts

Work as a single piece.

With a 3.5 mm hook, make a slip knot and chain 167 (183) 197 (213) sts.

Switch to a 3 mm hook, turn with 2 turning chains, and work back along the chain with 1 dc in each chain st = 167 (183) 197 (213) dc (including the 2 turning chains).

Continue working in dc, turning each time with 2 turning chains and working 1 dc in each dc of the previous row.

When the piece measures 35 (36) 35 (36) cm, begin decreasing for the front neckline slopes. To do this, on both sides in every right-side row, work 2 dc together after/before the edge stitch.

When the piece measures 44 cm, divide the work into back and fronts.

Back

Work on the center 85 (93) 99 (107) dc.

Mark the center of the back and, to shape the armholes, leave on both sides (as described above) 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 (4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1) 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 (4, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1) sts = 65 (69) 73 (77) sts remain.

When the armhole height from the marker measures at least 17 (18) 19 (20) cm, leave stitches for the neckline. To do this, leave the center 21 sts unworked and finish both sides separately.

In the next 2 rows, leave 2, 3 sts at the inner edge to shape the neckline = 17 (19) 21 (23) shoulder sts remain.

Finish the second side.

Right Front

Work on the stitches on the right. Leave stitches for the armhole the same as for the back, while continuing the decreases for the front neckline slope.

When 17 (19) 21 (23) sts remain, work to the shoulder edge (check against the back) and finish the piece.

Left Front

Work as the right front, but mirrored.

Sleeves

With a 3.5 mm hook, make a starting loop and chain 48 (52) 56 (60) sts.

After working about 12 (13) 14 (15) rows, increase 1 st on both sides (to do this, work 2 dc into one base stitch after/before the edge stitch). Repeat these increases every 3rd row until the stitch count increases to 68 (72) 76 (80) dc (work increases on both right-side and wrong-side rows).

When the sleeve length measures 42 (43) 44 (45) cm, begin shaping the sleeve cap: leave 3, 2 sts on both sides, then decrease 1 st on both sides at the beginning and end of every row until the stitch count decreases to 40 (42) 44 (46) dc.

Then leave 2, 2, 3, 3 sts on both sides and finish the piece.

Finishing

Sew the shoulder seams and sleeve seams, and set in the sleeves.

Button Band

First work a row of slip stitches along the front edge of the right front, then along the back neckline edge (to get a nice, even neckline curve), and down the left front (make sure the edge doesn’t pucker or become too loose). Cut the yarn.

Row 1: work 1 sc into each slip stitch.

Row 2: turn with 1 turning chain and work 1 sc into each sc. Repeat row 2.

When the band width measures at least 1 cm, work 5 buttonholes on the right front band = position the top buttonhole below the first decrease of the front slope, and space the rest evenly 7 cm apart.

Buttonhole: skip 3 sc, and in the next row work 3 chains to replace the 3 skipped sc.

When the band width measures approximately 2.5–3 cm, finish the piece.

Sew the buttons onto the left front band in the matching positions.
