Note! The jacket is worked in one piece, from the start of one sleeve to the end of the other sleeve; the back opening = the neckline.

Gauge

17 sts x 17 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked with a 4.5 mm hook.

Important: gauge must match the one given!

If only one number is given in the instructions, it applies to all sizes.

Instructions

With a 4.5 mm hook and black yarn, make 1 st and work a starting chain of 48 ch. Turn with 1 turning chain, switch to a 4 mm hook and work the wavy pattern following the instructions above.

Important: after 32 (28) 24 rows, increase 1 st on each side. Work these increases every 4th row = work 9 (7) 5 rows total with increases, then continue increasing every 2nd row = work 16 (20) 24 rows total with increases = 80 (88) 96 sts. Work a total of 80 rows for the sleeve = finish with 2 rows in stripe color, then work the back/front. For this, make 1 st in black and work a chain of 72 (76) 80 ch (for one side edge), then another 72 (76) 80 ch (for the other side edge) = 224 (240) 256 sts total.

Continue working the wavy pattern over all stitches, distributing it to both sides relative to the sleeve stitches accordingly. After 56 (60) 64 rows from the last sleeve row, finish with 2 rows black. In the next stripe color, work 2 rows of pattern over the first 96 (104) 112 sts = back. In black yarn, make 1 st with a 4.5 mm hook and work a chain of 128 (136) 144 ch for the right front.

Continue working the pattern over all stitches to the side edges (= work the same number of rows as for the first half, finish with 2 rows black). Then work the second sleeve on the middle 80 (88) 96 sts. Instead of increases, work decreases in the same rhythm. After working the same number of rows, finish the piece.

Finishing

Sew the sleeve seams and side seams, leaving a 16 cm opening at the bottom of each = side slits.

Work the edges of the garment in black with 1 row of sc and 1 row of crab stitch (= sc worked not right to left, but in the reverse direction – left to right).

Buttonholes

Work with a 2.5 mm hook in black yarn. Work 1 sc, 8 ch, 1 sc approximately 1-1.5 cm from the first one, then work the 8-chain loop in reverse with crab stitch.
