Crochet Bikini with Shorts - edging stitch chart

Gauge

23 dc = 10 cm, worked with a 3 mm hook.

Tip

Cotton thread stretches in water, so for extra security thread a thin elastic band through the casings as well.

Instructions

Shorts

The shorts consist of 2 pieces joined by front and back center seams.

Upper Part of the Right Half

Work from the top down.

Make a starting chain of 84 (90) 94 (98) ch, then work 1 dc into the 4th ch from the hook, then 1 dc into each ch across. You will have 82 (88) 92 (96) dc total. When turning, work 3 turning ch each time (= counts as the 1st dc).

Work 1 more row of dc. Then continue working increases: *in the following row increase 1 st on both sides, work the next 2 rows straight*. Repeat from * to * a total of 3 times.

After that continue increasing in the following rhythm: *in the next row increase 1 st on each side, then work 1 row without increases*. Repeat from * to * a total of 3 times = 94 (100) 104 (108) sts on the hook.

In the next 3 rows increase 2 sts on both sides = 106 (112) 116 (120) sts.

Upper Part of the Left Half

Work the same as the right half.

Lower Parts of the Shorts Halves

Join the upper parts of the shorts halves with mattress stitch = work the front and back center seams. Continue working in the round: 1 row of dc along the lower edge of one leg = 105 (110) 115 (120) dc, working 3 turning ch instead of the 1st dc. Close the round with a sl st into the top of the 3 turning ch.

Then work the lace edging according to the chart.

Finish the second leg the same way.

Seat Gusset

Worked on the back of the shorts.

Mark both sides along the side seam lines.

Work with the right side facing, starting at the right marker with a sl st. Then work: 4 sc, 4 hdc, 1 dc into each st until 8 sts remain before the marker on the other side, then work 4 hdc, 4 sc. Turn. Work 4 sl st, 4 sc, 4 hdc, 1 dc into each st until 4 sts remain before the hdc at the end of the row, finish with 4 hdc, 4 sc. Turn and repeat this row until the back seat gusset (measured along the center seam line) is 6 cm.

Edge the top of the shorts with a 2.5 mm hook: attach the yarn along the back center seam line with a sl st, work 3 turning ch and work 1 dc into each st up to the side seam line, then 1 hdc into each st up to the second side seam line, and 1 dc into each st up to the start of the edging. Evenly decrease a few sts along the way so that the total number of sts is divisible by 3. Close the row with a sl st into the top of the 3 turning ch.

In the next row work drawstring holes: 4 turning ch, *skip 1 st, 1 dc into the next 2 sts, 1 ch*. Repeat from * to * to the end of the round, finish with 1 dc into the last st, close the round with a sl st into the 3rd of the 4 turning ch.

Work 1 more row of dc and finish with the edging shown in the chart.

For the casing, make a cord: *2 ch, 1 sl st into the 1st ch*. Repeat from * to * to the desired cord length. Thread the cord through the casing holes.

Bra

Bra Cup

Chain 40 (44) 48 (52). Work the 1st dc into the 4th ch from the hook, the rest into each ch across = 37 (41) 45 (49) dc total.

Row 2 (for the cord): turn, 3 turning ch (instead of the 1st dc, work this in every row), 0 (1) 0 (0) dc, *1 ch, skip 1 st, 1 dc into each of the next 2 sts*.

Repeat from * to * to the end of the row (for size M finish the row with 1 dc).

Row 3: turn, 3 turning ch, work 1 dc into each dc and into each ch-space to the end of the row = 37 (41) 45 (49) dc.

Row 4: work with increases in the middle and decreases at the edges: turn, 3 turning ch, dc2tog (= work 1 dc but stop when 2 loops remain on the hook, work another dc into the next st but stop when 3 loops remain on the hook, yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook), 14 (16) 18 (20) dc, 2 dc into the next st, 1 dc (= center st), 2 dc into the next st, 14 (16) 18 (20) dc, dc2tog, 1 dc into the last st.

Rows 5, 6 and 7: work the same way.

Rows 8 and 9: turn, 3 ch, dc2tog, then work dc to the last 3 sts, dc2tog, 1 dc into the last st = 33 (37) 41 (45) sts.

Row 10: 3 turning ch, dc2tog, 11 (13) 15 (17) dc (= to 2 sts before the center st), dc2tog, 1 dc (= center st), dc2tog, 11 (13) 15 (17) dc, dc2tog, 1 dc into the last st.

Continue in this way, working decreases at the sides and on each side of the center st = each time there will be 2 fewer sts between the decreases. When 3 sts remain in the row, work them together in the next row = 1 st.

Work the second cup the same way.

Finishing

Sew the cup together along the 3 lower rows.

With a 2.5 mm hook, work 1 row of sc along the slanted sides of the cups, working about 2 sc for each dc row (the edge should not stretch, so the cups keep their shape well). Then edge the slanted sides of the cups according to the chart, the same as the top edge of the shorts.

Make 2 cords, as for the shorts. Thread a cord through the outer slanted side of each cup and tie the ends.
