In this online lesson, you will learn the essential cross-stitch technique for working a vertical row of cross stitches moving from bottom to top.
To stitch using this method, follow these step-by-step instructions:
- Start by making your first half-stitch: bring the needle from the top-right corner of the square down to the bottom-left corner.
- Important note: As you insert the needle into the bottom-left corner, simultaneously bring it up through the top-left corner of the same square in one smooth motion.
- Next, complete the cross stitch: insert the needle into the bottom-right corner of the square and simultaneously bring it out onto the front surface at the top-right corner of the next square above.
Continue repeating this sequence upward to complete the entire vertical column. When finished correctly, the back side of your fabric will form two clean, parallel rows of vertical stitches, keeping your work neat and tidy.
