Instructions for the “Crochet Shawl from Motifs” Chart

You Will Need
- yarn (100% cotton, 50 g/125 m) – 3 skeins each of light green, dark green, and green melange
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
Gauge
Diameter of one motif – approximately 11–12 cm.
Instructions
The shawl is made up of separate motifs in different colors.
Motif
Chain 6 and join into a ring with a slip stitch into the first chain. Work in rounds.
Round 1: Ch 4 (counts as turning chain), *1 sc into the ring, ch 3*, repeat from * to * 12 times, finish with 1 sl st into the 1st chain of the turning chain.
Round 2: 1 sl st into the 1st chain-arch, 1 sc around the 1st chain-arch, *ch 3, 1 sc around the next arch*, repeat from * to * 12 times, finish with 1 sl st into the 1st sc.
Round 3: 1 sl st into the 1st chain-arch, 1 sc around the 1st chain-arch, *ch 3, 1 sc around the next arch, ch 5, 1 sc around the next arch*, repeat from * to * until there are 6 short and 6 long arches, finish with 1 sl st into the 1st sc.
Round 4: 1 sl st into the 1st chain-arch, 1 sc around the 1st chain-arch, *into the large ch-5 arch work: 4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc, 1 sc into the next small arch*, work from * to * until all arches are worked, finish with 1 sl st into the 1st sc.
Round 5: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), *ch 5, 1 sc into the chain between two groups of 4 dc, ch 5, 1 dc into the sc of the small arch*, repeat from * to *, finish with 1 sl st into the 3rd chain of the turning chain. Fasten off.
Finishing
Make 81 motifs = 27 of each color. Sew the motifs together through the chain arches, matching the tips of the petals. Insert the needle into every stitch.
Begin assembly from the pointed corner of the shawl. The first row has only one motif; attach 2 motifs of other colors to it, then attach 3 more motifs to those. Continue this way up to 9 motifs in a row, then decrease the number of motifs in reverse order until only 1 motif remains in the row.
