The tea cozy is knitted with felting yarn.
Size:
- 26 cm tall and 58 cm in circumference (before felting)
- 16 cm tall and 42 cm in circumference (after felting)
Yarn manufacturer – Wash-filz-it!.
You will need:
- 150 g of MULTICOLOR space-dyed yarn (100% wool; 50 g/50 m) color No. 00246 in gray-blue tones;
- 8-9 mm double-pointed needles;
- 8-9 mm knitting needles;
- tapestry needle;
- 1 hook fastener.
Stitches and patterns used: Stockinette stitch.
Gauge:
- 10 x 10 cm = 11 sts x 16 rows/rounds before felting
- 10 x 10 cm = 15 sts x 26 rows/rounds after felting
Instructions
Cast on 64 sts and knit 6 rows in stockinette stitch. Then divide the work at the center and continue knitting the two halves separately (= 32 sts each half). After 18 rows from the division, knit both halves together again on all 64 sts for 2 more rows = 26 rows, or 16 cm tall. Next, distribute the sts evenly onto 4 double-pointed needles (= 16 sts on each needle), join in the round, and continue in stockinette stitch. In the 2nd round, and then in every following round, work k2tog 13 times at both ends of each needle = 8 sts. Finish the work, cut the yarn, and thread it through these 8 sts twice with a tapestry needle, pull tight, and secure, hiding the yarn tail. Total height 26 cm.
Finishing
Felt the piece in the washing machine at 40 °C (see the instructions “Felting Knitted Items”). After felting, shape it by pulling it over the teapot and let it dry. Sew the hook fastener onto both sides of the cast-on edge. Make a 7 cm diameter pompom and sew it on top (see photo).
