Potholder size: 16×21 cm
MATERIALS:
- 50 g each of brown (only for Model A), white, red, and yellow yarn (100% cotton, 125 m/50 g);
- 4 black buttons, 10 mm in diameter;
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
Instructions
Model A: Using brown yarn, chain 12, skip 1 ch, work row 1 in sc. For row 2, chain 4, turn, skip 1 ch. Continue working in sc following the chart. For a simple increase, work 2 sc into the first or last st. When increasing by more than one st at the beginning of a row, chain the corresponding number of sts. When increasing several sts at the end of a row, work new sc sts into the vertical part of the last st. To decrease, work the first 2 or last 2 sts together. Starting from row 25, use white yarn for the collar. Carry the unused yarn along as you work. To change color, finish the previous stitch with the new color: bring the old yarn forward and complete the stitch with the new one. In row 45, introduce red for the comb according to the chart. Starting from row 59, first finish the right part of the comb, work sl st across to the start of the left part and finish it. From there, work sl st around the outline of the comb. For the hanging loop, chain 10, join with 1 sl st into a ring, turn, and work sc around the loop.
Edge the collar with white sl st. Work sl st around the sides of the head and body in brown, and outline the wings.
Leg: For the right toe, chain 11, skip 1 ch, work 1 sc, 6 dc, and 3 sc into the following sts. For the middle toe, * turn the work, chain 1, work 3 sl st across the 3 sc of the previous row. Chain 8, turn. Skip 1 ch, then work 1 sc, 6 dc into ch 2-8, and 3 sc into the 3 sl st of the previous row.
For the left toe, repeat from * once. Work 4 sc around the entire heel. Make 2 identical legs and sew them on.
Beak: Using yellow yarn, chain 8. Skip the first ch, then work into the following sts: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, and 1 dc. Chain 3, return to the start of the foundation chain, join with 1 sl st. Work 1 round of sc around the beak.
Wattles: Make 2 from red yarn: chain 12, working from the 8th ch from the hook, work 2 hdc, 4 dc, 1 hdc, and sc. Sew to the head together with the beak. Sew on the two black buttons.
Model B is worked the same way, but using yarn in different colors (see Model B).
