Garter Stitch Ushanka Hat

Garter Stitch Ushanka Hat - worn by a smiling man

Head circumference – 54-56 cm

You will need:

  • yarn “Aelita Quattro” (60% wool, 40% acrylic, 190 m/100 g);
  • 100 g light green or gray color;
  • 4 mm needles.

Knitting the Hat

Cast on 12 sts and work in garter stitch, increasing 1 st on each side every row until you have 20 sts on the needles. Then work 16 rows straight.

At the beginning of the row, cast on 8 sts and continue working straight for another 22 rows. Put the sts on hold. Knit the second earflap to match.

For the brim, cast on 22 sts, work in garter stitch, increasing 2 sts on each side every row until you have 30 sts on the needles. Then work 26 rows straight.

After that, join the pieces in the following order: right earflap, brim, left earflap.

Work straight for 40 rows. In the first row, cross the sts at the joins so there are no holes. After that, decrease evenly by 7 sts every 2nd row until 9 sts remain on the needles.

Draw the remaining sts together with a length of yarn, sew the seam, fold up the brim, and secure it with a thread. Edge the hat with 1 row of single crochet or crab stitch (reverse single crochet).
