One size
Materials:
- 100 g of gray yarn such as “Drops Eskimo” (100% wool, 50 m/50 g);
- 100 g of natural white novelty loop yarn such as “Drops Puddel” (94% mohair, 6% polyester, 50 m/50 g) from Garnstudio;
- 7 mm double-pointed needles;
- size 8 mm crochet hook.
Increases: increase 1 st by picking up the strand between 2 sts of the previous row and knitting it through the back loop.
Decreases: decrease 1 st on each side of the marker as follows: knit to 1 st before the marker, slip the next stitch onto a cable needle and hold in back, slip the next stitch (with marker), slip the stitch from the cable needle back to the left needle, k2tog and pass this stitch over the slipped stitch = 2 sts decreased.
LEFT MITTEN
Work in the round on double-pointed needles. Cast on 24 sts with gray yarn. Work round 1 as follows (= right side): 12 knit sts, chart 2 pattern (= 12 knit sts and 12 sts according to chart 2). Continue in this way for 6 cm, then place a marker on the 9th stitch. On the next round, increase 1 st on each side of the marked stitch for the thumb gusset. Repeat the increases on each side of the increased stitches on the next round = 5 sts for the thumb gusset. Work 2 rounds without increases. On the next round, place the 5 thumb sts on a holder. At the same time, cast on 1 new stitch behind the held stitches = 24 sts in the round (12 knit sts and 12 sts according to chart 2). Place 2 markers on the piece as follows (round begins with 1 knit st): 1 marker on the 1st purl st and 1 marker on the 12th knit st. Once chart 2 has been worked 3 times (three vertical repeats), work the next round as follows: 12 knit sts, work chart 3. After 4 rounds, decrease 2 sts on each side of the mitten (see decreases) = 4 sts decreased in the round. Repeat the decreases every round, 5 times in total = 4 sts remain. Cut the yarn, pull it through the remaining stitches and tighten, secure on the wrong side.
THUMB
Return the 5 held thumb sts to the double-pointed needles. Pick up and knit 5 more sts behind these = 10 sts. Work in stockinette stitch in the round (every round is knit) for 5 cm. Place 2 markers on the thumb: one on the 1st st and the other on the 6th st (= on each side). On the next round, decrease 2 sts on each side of the thumb (see decreases) = 4 sts decreased in the round. Repeat the decreases on the next round = 2 sts remain. Cut the working yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, secure on the wrong side.
RIGHT MITTEN
Work as for the left mitten, but reversed. Place the marker on the 4th stitch for the thumb gusset increases.
“FUR” TRIM
Crochet with a double strand of the novelty yarn. Work 1 slip st into the cast-on edge of the mitten, ch 1, then work 18 single crochet sts around the edge, finish with 1 slip st into the 1st single crochet. Then work 1 single crochet into each single crochet around the round until the trim measures 6 cm, cut and secure the yarn. Work the trim on the second mitten in the same way.
