Instructions
Back
With azure yarn, make a starting chain of 68 (79) 90 sts + 3 turning chains instead of the first dc, then work in wave pattern.
After 20 (25) 30 cm from the starting row, decrease evenly on both sides for the armholes by 4 (5) 6 cm, checking against the schematic.
After 8 (10) 12 cm from the start of the armholes, finish the piece.
Front
Work the same as the back.
Straps
(Make 2 pieces.)
With turquoise yarn and a 4 mm hook, make a chain of 7 sts + 1 turning chain instead of the first sc for each strap, then work in single crochet.
After 16 (17) 18 cm from the starting row, finish the piece.
Finishing
Lightly dampen and stretch the pieces to the measurements given in the schematic, pin them out on the schematic, and leave to dry completely.
Sew the side seams.
Work around the top edges and armholes with apple green yarn in 1 round of sc and crab stitch (= sc worked from left to right).
Work along the long edges of the straps with apple green yarn in 1 row of sc and crab stitch.
Sew the straps to the front and back, matching the edges with the armholes on the front and back.
When finished, lightly steam all seams.
Hat
With azure yarn, make a starting chain of 88 (88) 99 sts, join into a ring with 1 slip stitch. Work in rounds in wave pattern.
After 10 (11.5) 13 cm from the starting row, work as follows for the decreases and color changes:
Round 1: alternate 1 dc and 1 ch, working 1 dc into each chain arch of the previous row = 40 (40) 45 dc.
Round 2: alternate 1 dc and 1 ch, working 1 dc into each chain arch of the previous round, and work every 4th + 5th dc together = 32 (32) 36 dc.
Round 3: alternate 1 dc and 1 ch, working 1 dc into each chain arch of the previous round, and work every 3rd + 4th dc together = 24 (24) 27 dc.
Round 4: alternate 1 dc and 1 ch, working 1 dc into each chain arch of the previous round, and work every 2nd + 3rd dc together = 16 (16) 18 dc.
Round 5: alternate 1 dc and 1 ch, working 1 dc into each chain arch of the previous round, and work every 2 dc together continuously = 8 (8) 9 dc.
Pull the remaining stitches tightly closed with the working yarn.
These designs can be combined with a summer top for girls.
