Instructions for the Chart “Striped Crochet Bag”
You Will Need
- Yarn (50% wool, 50% polyacrylic, 55 m/50 g) – 150 g dark blue, 100 g each of blue, bright pink, orange and yellow
- Size 4 mm and 6 mm crochet hooks
Stitch Patterns and Charts
Main Pattern
Work sc in continuous rounds on the wrong side of the work, inserting the hook only through the front loop each time.
Begin each round with 1 ch instead of the first sc, and end with 1 sl st into the turning chain.
For each increase, work 1 ch between 2 sc, then in the following round work 1 sc over the chain.
Stripe Sequence
*Work 4 rounds each in blue, bright pink, dark blue, yellow and orange; repeat from * throughout.
Spiral Tassel
Chain 20 or 25 sts, turn, and work 3 sc into each chain st.
Gauge
17 sts x 16 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in main pattern with a 6 mm hook.
Instructions
With a 6 mm hook and dark blue yarn, chain 36 sts, then work sc around both sides of the starting chain, working 3 sc into the first and last chain st (= side center). Work 1 ch for the first sc, and end round 1 with 1 sl st into the turning chain = 68 sc. Continue in main pattern following the stripe sequence, increasing on both sides at the side center as follows:
Round 2: increase 3 sts on each side = 74 sts,
Round 3: increase 2 sts on each side = 78 sts,
Round 4: increase 4 sts on each side = 86 sts,
Round 5: increase 2 sts on each side = 90 sts,
Round 6: increase 2 sts on each side = 94 sts,
Round 7: increase 4 sts on each side = 102 sts,
Round 8: increase 2 sts on each side = 106 sts,
Round 9: increase 2 sts on each side = 110 sts,
Round 10: increase 4 sts on each side = 118 sts,
Round 11: increase 2 sts on each side = 122 sts,
Round 12: increase 2 sts on each side = 126 sts.
Continue straight without further increases. After 30 cm = 48 rounds from the starting row, work 1 more round of sc in dark blue, then 1 round of crab stitch (= sc worked from left to right).
Finishing
With a 4 mm hook, crochet both handles. For each handle, chain 150 sts in dark blue and work 2 rows of sc, then work 1 row of sl st along the outer edges on both the inside and outside. Finally, work 1 row of sl st along the center on the outside in bright pink yarn. Sew the handles to the wrong side of the front and back of the bag.
With yellow yarn, make one spiral tassel of 25 chain sts, and with blue yarn one tassel of 20 chain sts. Sew both tassels to the front of the bag.
