Main Stitch Pattern
Work in single crochet (sc) in rounds or in rows worked back and forth, beginning each row with 1 turning chain instead of the first sc; end circular rounds with 1 slip stitch.
To double 1 stitch, work 2 sc into the same base stitch.
Popcorn Stitch Pattern
Round 1: Ch 3 and work 3 dc into the 1st stitch, remove the hook from the loop, insert it into the top of the 3 ch, pull the loop through, then pull the yarn through both loops. *Ch 2, skip 2 sts, work 1 popcorn stitch (= 4 dc into the next stitch, remove the hook from the loop, insert it into the 1st dc, pull the loop through, then pull the yarn through both loops), repeat from * around, ending with ch 2 and 1 slip stitch into the 1st stitch.
Round 2: Work 1 sc into each popcorn stitch and 2 sc into each chain arch, end with 1 slip stitch into the 1st stitch.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 continuously.
Gauge
20 sc x 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in the main stitch pattern.
Instructions
For the bottom of the bag, chain 18 and work sc around both sides of the chain, working 4 sc into the 1st and last chain stitch = 40 sc (= Round 1).
Continue working in rounds in the main stitch pattern, doubling the middle 2 stitches on each side every round, until there are 84 sc after Round 12.
Work 4 more rounds in the main stitch pattern without increases, then 9 cm in the popcorn stitch pattern, then 3 more rounds in the main stitch pattern.
After this, continue working the handle on both sides in rows back and forth over 32 stitches in the main stitch pattern, leaving 1 stitch unworked at the end of each row until only 8 stitches remain.
Work the handle straight to a length of 20 cm, or to your preferred length.
Join the ends of the handle with sc.
