Finished Size
Approximately 24 x 24 cm.
You Will Need
- yarn (100% linen, 50 g/125 m) — 1 skein white, 9 skeins black
- 4 mm crochet hook
- zipper (25 cm)
Important! The bag is crocheted with 3 strands held together.
Gauge
18 half double crochets x 18 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked with 3 strands held together on a 4 mm hook.
Instructions
Start with the two main sections of the bag. With a 4 mm hook, make a slip knot, chain 5, and join with a slip stitch to form a ring. Then work as follows:
Round 1: Ch 1 (turning chain), work 12 hdc into the ring, join with a slip stitch to the turning chain.
Round 2: Ch 1 (turning chain), *2 hdc in 1 hdc of the previous round, 1 hdc in the next hdc*, repeat from * to * around, join with a slip stitch to the turning chain = 6 increase groups.
Round 3: Ch 1 (turning chain), *2 hdc into the center of the increase group, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 hdc*, repeat from * to * around, join with a slip stitch to the turning chain = 1 hdc increased in each of the 6 groups.
Continue working in rounds, increasing by 6 hdc each round = this will form a hexagon.
When the round has 120 stitches, finish the piece.
Crochet the second section of the bag the same way.
Decorative Edging
Edge both hexagon pieces around the outline, working alternately 2 hdc in black yarn and 2 hdc in white yarn. Close the round with 1 slip stitch.
Handle/Strap + Side Panel of the Bag
The handle and the side panel of the bag are a single piece!
With a 4 mm hook, make a slip knot, chain 220, and join with a slip stitch to form a ring. Work the next 10 rounds as follows: ch 1 (turning chain), 1 hdc in each stitch, join with a slip stitch to the turning chain.
Sew the resulting piece between the hexagon panels, leaving the two top edges open.
Closure Pieces
For one piece, make a slip knot and chain 40, turn with 1 turning chain and work 1 hdc in each of the following 39 chains*, turn with 1 turning chain and work 1 hdc in each of the 39 hdc*. Repeat from * to * until 4 rows are worked.
Crochet the second piece the same way.
Sew the zipper between the two crocheted pieces.
Sew the resulting top section with the zipper between the open edges of the hexagons and attach it to the handle.
