Instructions
For the first square, work with 2 strands held together: 1 chain + 2 turning chains, then work 1 sc, 2 ch, and 1 sc into the 1st chain (= Row 1).
Then continue in the main pattern as follows, starting each row with 2 extra turning chains:
Row 2: 1 sc, work 1 sc into the middle chain-arch, 2 ch + 1 sc, 1 sc = 4 sc,
Row 3: 2 sc, into the middle chain-arch work 1 sc, 2 ch + 1 sc, 2 sc = 6 sc.
Continue working in pattern, always working 1 sc, 2 ch, and 1 sc in the center, until the diagonal of the square measures 30 cm.
Work the second square the same way, then place both pieces together and sew both lower edges, see schematic.
Work the 3rd square directly between the 1st and 2nd squares. To do this, start at the top corner of the 1st square and work 1 sc into each stitch, then work 1 sc between the squares (= center stitch), and continue to the top corner of the 2nd square, again working 1 dc into each stitch.
Next, work all these stitches in the main pattern, starting each row with 1 extra turning chain, and in each row work the middle 3 sc together to decrease 2 sts per row.
When only 9 stitches remain, continue working the strap in the main pattern on these 9 stitches, starting each row with 1 extra turning chain.
When the strap measures 30 cm in length, fasten off.
Work the 4th square with strap the same way on the other side.
Finally, sew the ends of the straps together.
