Pattern instructions for “Crochet Backpack with Phone Case”
Size

You will need
- Yarn 1 (100% wool, 50 m/50 g) – 500 g white
- Yarn 2 (100% cotton, 75 m/50 g) – 200 g brown
- 5 mm crochet hook
Patterns and Charts
Main pattern = single crochet (sc)
When working in rows back and forth, begin each row with 1 extra turning chain.
When working in rounds, work sc in a spiral, ending each round not with 1 slip stitch but continuing directly with 1 sc. Mark the transition between rounds with a contrasting thread.
Gauge
12 sc = 10 cm, worked in the main pattern.
Instructions
Backpack
For the bottom, work a starting chain of 22 ch + 1 turning ch in white yarn and work in the main pattern back and forth in rows to a height of 24 cm. Work the 2nd piece the same way.
To make the bottom sturdier, stack the two pieces together and join them by working sc around the edge as follows: work 22 sc along the short sides and 30 sc along the long sides = 104 sc total.
Continue working in rounds on these 104 sts in the main pattern to a height of 25 cm from the bottom.
In the next round, work the strap casing as follows: *10 sc, 3 ch, skip 3 sts, repeat from *. Then continue working on all 104 sts as before the casing.
At 30 cm from the bottom, work the last round and finish off with a slip stitch.
For the strap, work a chain of 7 ch in brown yarn, join with 1 sl st into a ring, work 7 sc into the ring, then work in rounds in the main pattern on these 7 sts to a length of 2 m.
Thread the strap through the casing (= round with eyelets) twice, then tie the ends in a knot.
Phone Case
In white yarn, work a starting chain of 8 ch + 1 turning ch, then work 8 sc along each side of the starting chain = 16 sc (= 1st round). Continue working in rounds in the main pattern to 11 cm, then work straight for a cord of 22 ch.
Cut the yarn and sew the case with the cord onto the backpack.
