Knitting the Bolero
FRONT: Cast on 8 sts and work in the lace pattern. Work the entire piece in the pattern as indicated. Increase 1 st at the inner edge until the piece measures 14 cm. At a total height of 17.5 cm, shape the armhole by decreasing 3, 2, and 2 sts at the outer edge. At 14 cm above the armhole, bind off all remaining stitches.
BACK: Cast on 80 sts and work 6 cm in 2×2 rib, alternating 2 knit and 2 purl stitches. Then continue in the lace pattern. At a total height of 23.5 cm, shape the armholes by decreasing 3, 2, and 2 sts at each edge. At 14 cm above the armholes, bind off 15 sts at each edge of the piece. Work the center stitches for another 5 cm, then bind them off.
SLEEVE: Cast on 42 sts and work 5.5 cm in 2×2 rib, then continue in the lace pattern. Increase 1 st at each edge of the piece every 10th row until there are 58 sts on the needles. At a height of 40.5 cm, decrease 3, 2, and 2 sts at each edge. Continue working, decreasing 1 st at a time, until the section with decreases measures 10 cm. Work the remaining stitches for another 8 cm, then bind them off. Sew the shoulder seams, set in the sleeves, and sew the side seams. Pick up stitches along the edges of the front panels and neckline and work 6 cm in 2×2 rib. Then bind off 14 sts at each lower edge of the front panels. Continue knitting the collar, decreasing 2 sts at each edge 5 times, once per row. When the total height of the collar reaches 13 cm, bind off the remaining stitches.
