Lace Ruffle Stitch Pattern

Note! The pattern of each following ruffle is offset from the previous one by 8–9 sc!
Gauge
22 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in stockinette stitch with 3.5 mm needles
Instructions
The skirt is worked from the bottom edge up.
Using 3.5 mm circular needles, cast on 204 (221) 238 sts and work 2 rounds in purl (to form a ridge for the crocheted ruffle). Then work: *22 (24) 26 rows in stockinette (knit), 2 rows purl*, repeat from * to *.
After working a total of 4 sets of 2 purl rows (for 4 ruffles), work the rest of the skirt in stockinette stitch, working decreases as follows (beginning of round = center back line): from the beginning of the round work 24 (26) 28 sts, slip 1 st, knit the next st and pass the slipped st over it, place a marker, knit 2 sts together, work 46 (50) 55 sts, slip 1 st, knit the next st and pass the slipped st over it, place a marker, knit 2 sts together, work 48 (53) 56 sts, slip 1 st, knit the next st and pass the slipped st over it, place a marker, knit 2 sts together, work 46 (50) 55 sts, slip 1 st, knit the next st and pass the slipped st over it, place a marker, knit 2 sts together, work the remaining 24 (26) 28 sts of the round.
Then work 6 rows without decreases and after that repeat the decreases on both sides of the markers = each decrease row decreases by 8 sts.
Work 6 rows straight and repeat the decreases.
Work the next 3 rows and repeat the decreases.
Work another 3 rows and repeat the decreases = 164 (181) 198 sts remain on the needles. Work another 3 rows, switch to 3 mm circular needles and work 3 cm in stockinette stitch, 1 row purl, and 3 cm in stockinette stitch, then bind off all stitches.
Ruffles
Work in rounds with a 3 mm crochet hook on the stitches of each of the 4 “ridges.” For each ruffle, first work 1 round of sc = 1 sc into each stitch, picking up both rows of the ridge together in pairs, then continue according to the chart. Fold the top edge (= the edge with the bound-off stitches) down to the top ridge on the wrong side and sew in place = casing. Thread the elastic band through the casing.
