Today we are going to explore the latch hook technique using a Vervaco brand kit as an example. Let’s see what our kit includes to help you get started on your rug-making journey.
First of all, the kit contains: a printed insert featuring an adorable teddy bear design, a convenient zippered bag for storing your latch hook supplies, and a special latch hook tool with a wooden handle and a metal shaft, which is essential for this type of needlework. Latch hooks come in various sizes and can be made of either plastic or wood.
Furthermore, the kit contains bundles of pre-cut woolen yarn, an illustrated instruction manual with clear explanations, and a separate packet containing binding tape, strong thread, a large tapestry needle, and instructions for neatly finishing the edges of your rug.
And, of course, the heart of the kit is the high-quality stramin (heavy canvas) with a pre-printed full-color pattern, measuring 45 by 60 centimeters. Following this printed design, you simply select the corresponding yarn color and hook it into the canvas to create your rug. It is usually most convenient to work systematically in rows, moving from top to bottom, or in whichever way feels most comfortable for your hands. Please note that there is no separate paper chart included in this kit, as the pattern is already clearly and precisely printed directly on the stramin canvas.
The finished rug turns out incredibly soft, fluffy, and cozy — a perfect handmade addition to a nursery or bedroom.
