To embroider a “Daffodil” with ribbons, we first sketch the flower on paper. We draw the petals, the corolla (center), and the stem, and then we can proceed directly to the embroidery process.
For embroidering the petals, take a 13 mm wide ribbon and a needle with a large eye. Cut one end of the ribbon at a 45-degree angle to prevent it from fraying while you work. The optimal length for your working ribbon should be about 35-40 cm.
Next, thread the pointed end of the ribbon through the needle. Take a piece of cream-colored canvas fabric and secure it tightly in your embroidery hoop. On the fabric, mark the center point around which the petals will be arranged, and lightly sketch the direction of each petal.
Begin embroidering along your penciled guidelines. Bring the needle up from the wrong side of the fabric, but do not tie a knot; instead, leave a small tail of about 1.5-2 cm of ribbon at the back. Lay the ribbon flat following the direction of the petal, pierce the fabric right through the center of the ribbon at the petal’s tip (creating a classic ribbon stitch), and gently pull it through to the back. Continue this technique to embroider all the remaining petals.
