Lilac Knitted Dog Sweater

Lilac Knitted Dog Sweater - worn by a small dog

Treat your pet to a new outfit. This elegant knitted sweater for dogs is perfect for cool days. The pattern suits both boys and girls, distinguished by a flower or a bow.

For the sweater you will need:

  • blackberry-colored yarn with lurex;
  • 3 mm needles;
  • 2 large safety pins;
  • black ribbon for the bow.

Main stitch pattern: small moss stitch

Cast on 60 sts (24 cm) and work 2×2 rib for about 2 cm. Then increase 1 st on each side so that the width across the belly, folded, measures 16 cm. After the ribbing, begin working the pattern (see chart). Work the pattern only on the back; on the belly, work small moss stitch. After working the pattern for about 1.5 cm, divide all the stitches and work each edge separately to a length of 5.5 cm, over a width of 8 cm (for the sleeves and belly). Leave the remaining stitches on hold for the pattern. Once the edges reach the needed length, place them on pins, move to the back, and work according to the chart. Work the back for 7 cm, then remove the pins and join all stitches together. Work 6 cm, gradually closing the belly while smoothly continuing the back. The difference between the belly length and the back length is 10 cm.

Finishing: sew the piece together and work a 2 cm rib edging along the bottom. Separately knit the sleeves – 4 cm (length) x 16 cm (width), in 2×2 rib, and sew them into the sleeve openings. The finished length along the back is 25 cm, along the belly – 15 cm. For a male dog, fold a bow from the black ribbon; for a female dog, knit a flower and pin it on.

For the flower: 50 g of yarn and 2 double-pointed needles.

Pattern: garter stitch. Cast on 50 sts and work 2 cm upward. Then begin decreasing: row 1 – every 10th st; row 3 – every 9th st; row 5 – every 8th st. Thread yarn through the remaining stitches, gather the piece, and twist it at the same time to shape it into a flower. Baste the lower edge with stitches.

Leaves: knit one leaf following chart 1, working rows 1 through 19 once. Knit the second leaf following chart 2, rows 1 through 23. After row 19 or 23, gather the remaining 3 stitches with the working yarn.
