Decorative items bring not only coziness but also comfort to a home. Today we suggest knitting wonderful hot water bottle covers – they look modern and beautiful thanks to the thick yarn and simple design. In winter you can curl up on the couch next to such a warm and soft bottle.
Size: length 38 cm, circumference 43 cm.
You will need:
- wool yarn (100% sheep’s wool; 90 m/50 g), 150 g white or gray;
- size 12 double-pointed needles.
Patterns and stitches:
Rib: alternating 2 knit and 2 purl.
Stockinette stitch: when working in the round, knit every row.
Gauge: 8 sts x 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in stockinette stitch with 3 strands held together.
Note! The cover is knitted with 3 strands held together!
Instructions:
Using a tripled strand, cast on 32 sts, distribute the sts on 4 needles (= 8 sts per needle) and work in the round in stockinette stitch, marking the transition from row to row. After 24 cm = 34 rows from the beginning, start decreasing sts to shape the “neck”: on needles 1 and 3, knit the 1st st, then knit the next 2 sts together with a left-leaning decrease, knit the rest plain; on needles 2 and 4, knit to the last 3 sts, then knit 2 sts together, knit the last st plain = 4 sts decreased in the round. Repeat these decreases in the following 2nd row = 24 sts. Then knit 1 row plain with no decreases and continue in rib. After 8 cm = 10 rows from the start of the rib, bind off all sts. Insert the bottle into the cover through the open bottom and sew the bottom seam.
