Stitch Patterns and Charts
Main Pattern
Work in rows back and forth following the chart. Begin each row with 2 turning ch for the first sc, or 3 turning ch for the first dc. Start with the stitches before the first arrow on the chart, repeat the pattern repeat between the arrows, and end with the stitches after the second arrow. Repeat rows 1-4 for the pattern height.

Instructions
With eggplant-colored yarn, chain 56 and work the 1st dc into the 5th ch from the hook. Continue working the main part of the bag following the chart, repeating the pattern repeat 8 times per row. Work a total of 11 rows in height.
For the side panels, crochet two rectangles: 6 dc x 8 rows. To do this, chain 9 and work the 1st dc into the 5th ch from the hook. Work 1 dc into each following ch = row 1.
Begin the next row with 3 turning ch and work 5 dc into each dc of the previous row. Fasten off after 8 rows.
Finishing
Shape the pieces as needed, dampen them, and leave to dry.
Work 1 row of sc around the main piece with the leather cord, catching in the edges of the side panels as you go. To do this, lay out the main piece of the bag and, 10 cm from the top short side, place a side panel along one edge on top of it. Baste it first along one long side, then along the bottom short side, then along the second long side.
Then work sc around the edges of the main piece, catching in the edges of the side panel.
At the top edge of the side panel, work 1 sc into each sc so that the side panel narrows toward the top. Continue working sc around the flap, then as you continue the edging, attach the second side panel as described above.
At the start of the flap, sew the ends of the chain handle to the inside.
