Instructions
Work the bag in the round from the bottom up.
Chain 37 with beige yarn and work following Stripe Sequence A.
Rnd 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each st across = 34 sc, 4 sc in last ch, continue along the other side of the starting chain, 34 sc, 2 sc in same st as first 2 sc, join with 1 sl st in first sc = 74 sc. Mark the beginning of the round.
Rnd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st, 36 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, 36 sc, 2 sc in last st, join with 1 sl st in first ch = 80 sc.
Rnd 3: ch 1, 2 sc in 1st st, half of sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc to last sc, 2 sc in last st, join with 1 sl st in ch = 84 sc.
Rnds 4-6: ch 1, sc to end, join with 1 sl st in ch = 84 sc.
Repeat rounds 3-6 in this manner 9 more times, increasing the stitch count by 4 sc after each repeat = 120 sc in the following rnd 46.
Edge the piece with crab stitch (= sc worked from left to right).
Handles
Make a magic ring with black yarn and work 6 sc into it, then continue in sc following Stripe Sequence B, working in a spiral (= no chain at the start and no slip stitch at the end of the round, just continue working continuously). Mark the beginning of the round.
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail.
Work the second handle the same way.
Finishing
Sew the ends of the handles 7 cm from the edge on each side, leaving about 14 cm between them.
The handle stripes do not have to match the bag’s colors.
If desired, sew a lining into the bag.
Sew the button to the inside, centered. For the closure, cut 6 beige strands about 18 cm long and braid them into a cord. Form the cord into a loop and sew it opposite the button.
