Patterns and Charts

Main Pattern

Hdc worked in rounds. Begin each round with 2 turning chains instead of the first hdc, and end with 1 slip stitch into the 2nd turning chain.

Color sequence in the main pattern: 13 cm berry, 13 cm white, 18 cm pink.

Sunflowers

With brown yarn, make a chain of 2 ch and work 6 sc into the 1st chain. Continue working in a spiral of rounds, first working sc.

Round 2: Double each stitch, inserting the hook through the back loop only = 12 sts.

Turn the work and, working in the opposite direction, work through the front loops of round 2 and then through the front loops of round 1, making 1 slip stitch and 2 ch each. End with 1 slip stitch into the beginning of round 1.

Round 3: Start with new yellow yarn and work through the back loops of round 2, making a stitch and 2 ch = 12 chain arches.

Round 4: Into each chain arch of the previous round work 1 petal (= 1 slip stitch, 2 ch, 1 tr, 2 ch, 1 slip stitch into the second-to-last ch, 1 tr, 2 ch, 1 slip stitch) = 12 petals.

Double Leaf

With light green yarn, make a chain of 17 ch + 1 turning ch and work around it as follows: 1 sc, * 2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 hdc *, 1 sc, 1 slip stitch, 1 sc, repeat from * to * once more **, 3 sc into the 1st chain of the starting row, and work around the other side of the starting chain from * to ** in the same way, finish with 1 sc and 1 slip stitch into the 1st chain of the round.

Strap

Cover the cord with berry yarn. To do this, with berry yarn make a chain of 200 ch and work 3 rows in the main pattern. Insert the cord and join the piece into a tube with 1 row of slip stitches into the stitches of the starting row, leaving cord ends hanging out on both sides.

Gauge

16 sts x 15 rnds = 10 x 10 cm, worked in the main pattern.

Instructions

For the base, with berry yarn make a chain of 4 ch and join into a ring with 1 slip stitch. Continue working in the main pattern in rounds, increasing as follows:

  • Round 1: 8 sts.
  • Round 2: Double each stitch = 16 sts.
  • Round 3: Double every 2nd stitch = 24 sts.
  • Round 4: Double every 3rd stitch.

Continue in this way, increasing 8 sts in every round.

After 15 rounds there will be 120 sts on the needle (= end of the base).

Continue without increases; for the edge along the base, in round 4 work at the same time through the back loops of the stitches of round 1 from the end of the base. Then work according to the color sequence.

After 11 cm from the start, with pink yarn skip the 4th-6th st and then every 8th-10th st 11 more times, making 3 ch for the casing holes. Continue working on all stitches in the main pattern.

After 18 cm from the start, with pink yarn (= end of the color sequence), finish the work.

Finishing

Fold the top edge to the wrong side and hem it down, about 2.5 cm wide.

Make 5 sunflowers and 3 double leaves. Sew the flowers and leaves symmetrically onto the backpack according to the photo, placing the middle flower and both outer flowers slightly higher than the other two. Sew the leaves about 2 cm below the flowers positioned higher up. The round transition forms the center of the back side of the backpack. Fasten the motifs only at the center and at the ends of the leaves and petals.

Between the 4th and 3rd rounds from the end worked in berry yarn, work 1 round of slip stitches in light green yarn, running the yarn along the bottom. Work around the transition between the last two rounds of berry yarn in the same way, working slip stitches forward toward the flower for the stems and back again.

Make the strap and thread it through the holes, starting at the center back. Thread the cord ends into the base edging 5 cm from the center on both sides. Tie the cord ends together in the middle by pulling them out together, tying, and pulling them back inside.

Sew the ends of the cord covering to the base edge.

With double strand of berry yarn, make a chain about 15 cm long. Attach 1 sheep to each end and attach the chain at its center to the threaded strap. Optionally, add a lining ending 1 cm below the threaded cord.
