Crochet Market Bag with Diamonds

To crochet the bag you will need:

• beige cotton yarn (265 m/50 g);
• 2.5 mm crochet hook.

Diamond pattern: work from the chart. Repeat rows 1 through 16.

Instructions: using a double strand of yarn, chain 47 + 3 turning ch. Begin each round with 3 turning ch in place of the first dc, and end with 1 slip stitch into the turning chain.

Row 1: 2 dc in the 1st st, 45 dc, 3 dc in the last st, then work 46 dc along the other side of the starting chain = 96 dc.

Row 2: * 1 dc, 3 dc in 1 base st, 46 dc, repeat from * once = 100 dc.

Row 3: * 1 dc, 3 dc in 1 base st, 1 dc, 3 dc in 1 base st, 46 dc, repeat from * once = 108 dc.

Row 5: * 1 dc, alternate (3 dc in 1 base st and 2 dc) 4 times, 3 dc in 1 base st, 46 dc, repeat from * once = 140 dc.

Row 6: * 2 dc, alternate (3 dc in 1 base st and 4 dc) 4 times, 3 dc in 1 base st, 47 dc, repeat from * once = 160 dc. Then continue in the diamond pattern. After 30 rows from the starting edge, leave the middle 19 sts on both straight sides and work the handles on the remaining stitches, decreasing 1 st on each side every row. After 54 rows from the starting edge, finish the work. Sew the ends of the handles together and edge the openings with 1 row of “crab stitch” (sc worked left to right) using a double strand of yarn.
