Pattern Notes for the “Colorblock Crochet Tote Bag”

You will need
- yarn (50% cotton, 50% polyacrylic, 65 m/50 g) – 150 g pink and 150 g brown, 100 g orange
- size 4 mm crochet hook
- 1 pack of gold sequins
- 100 cm of thick cord
Patterns and Charts
Main Pattern
Sc worked in rounds. Begin each round with 1 extra turning ch and end with 1 sl st into the first sc of the previous round.
Textured Pattern
Even number of stitches. Work in rounds following chart 2. Repeat the pattern repeat continuously, working the transition between rounds as shown on the chart.
Work rounds 1-3 once, then repeat rounds 2-3 continuously.
Stripe sequence in the textured pattern: 12 rounds in brown, 6 rounds in orange, finish with pink.
Bag Handles
With orange yarn, chain 2 and continue working following chart 3.
Work rows 1-5 once, then repeat rows 4-5 continuously.
After 42 cm from the starting row, finish the handle as a mirror image, working decreases instead of increases.
Gauge
13 sts of the starting row x 14 rows = 10 x 10 cm, worked in the textured pattern.

Instructions
With brown yarn, chain 19 + 1 turning ch for the base and work in the main pattern following chart 1. To do this, work along both sides of the starting chain in round 1 and work increases as shown on the chart.
After 8 rounds (= end of chart), there will be 82 sts on the round.
Work 1 more round in sc, alternately doubling every 2nd and 3rd stitch 32 times = 114 sts.
Then continue in the textured pattern following the stripe sequence. Finish the piece after 27 cm from the start of the textured pattern.
Finishing
Sew the sequins evenly onto the orange stripe.
Cut the cord in half, insert into the handle strips and sew closed. Sew the handles onto the bag at the center (7 cm from the orange stripe, 21 cm between the ends).
