You will need:

  • 500 (550) ((600)) g of LINIE 342 GALINA yarn from ONline, color nougat, shade 08 (93% cotton, 7% polyester, 100 m/50 g);
  • size 4 and 4.5 mm knitting needles;

Lace pattern (on 4.5 mm needles): Number of stitches is a multiple of 1 + 1 + selvage sts. Work according to the chart. On WS rows, purl all stitches and yarn overs. Repeat rows 1-16.

Main pattern (on 5 mm needles): Stockinette stitch: RS rows – knit, WS rows – purl. Rib (on 4.5 mm needles): alternate 2 knit sts, 2 purl sts.

Button band pattern (on 4 mm needles): Double knitting = After each picked-up stitch, work 1 yarn over. Knit the yarn over, slip the picked-up stitch as if to purl with the yarn in front of the stitch. Row 2 and all following rows: knit the slipped stitches of the previous row, slip the knitted stitches of the previous row as if to purl with yarn in front. Knitting and Finishing the Cardigan

Lace Cardigan for Women - lace stitch chart and schematic

Back:

With 4.5 mm needles, cast on 93 (103) ((113)) sts, work 1 WS row in purl, then for the lace pattern distribute the stitches as follows: selvage st, 6 sts before the repeat, 8x (9x) ((10x)) sts of the repeat, 5 sts after the repeat, selvage st.

For the side shaping, decrease 1 x 1 st on each side after every 10 rows = 91 (101) ((111)) sts, then decrease 7 x 1 st on each side every 12th row = 77 (87) ((97)) sts.

Work the stitches on both sides in the lace pattern as far as possible.

For the armhole, after 48 (47) ((45)) cm of total length, bind off 1 x 3 (4) ((5)) sts on each side, then decrease 1 x 2 sts and 3x (4x) ((5x)) 1 st every 2nd row.

After approximately 63 cm (= 158 rows of the lace pattern), work 5 cm more in the main pattern, then bind off all 61 (67) ((73)) sts.

Left Front:

With 4.5 mm needles, cast on 45 (50) ((55)) sts, work 1 WS row in purl, then for the lace pattern distribute the stitches as follows: selvage st, 6 sts before the repeat, 3x (4x) ((4x)) sts of the repeat, 5 (0) ((5)) sts after the repeat + 2 knit sts, selvage st.

Attention!

For the middle size, in row 7 of the chart, after the last yarn over, work only 2 sts together with a slip-stitch decrease (k2tog through the back loop), 2 knit sts, selvage st.

For all sizes, along the cardigan edge between the lace pattern and the selvage st, work 2 sts in stockinette stitch.

For the neckline shaping, after 44 cm of total length (= 104 rows of the lace pattern), at the end of the row work the 3rd and 4th sts together knitwise, 1 knit st, selvage st.

Repeat these decreases every 2nd row 10 more times, then every 4th row 5 times.

Work the armhole shaping on the right edge as for the back.

After approximately 63 cm total length (= 158 rows of the lace pattern), work 5 cm more in the main pattern, then bind off all 13 (16) ((19)) shoulder sts.

Work the right front to match, i.e., for the neckline shaping at the same height on the right edge, after the selvage st, work 1 knit st, k2tog through the back loop, then work in the lace pattern to the end of the row.

Sleeves:

With 4.5 mm needles, cast on 34 (38) ((42)) sts and work 5 rows of rib, then continue in the main pattern = stockinette stitch, increasing 1 st on each side = 36 (40) ((44)) sts.

For the sleeve shaping, on each side increase 4 x 1 st every 10th row, then 6 x 1 st every 8th row (11 x 1 st every 8th row) ((13 x 1 st every 6th row)) = 56 (62) ((70)) sts. For the sleeve cap, after 43 (42) ((41)) cm of the main pattern, bind off 1 x 3 (4) ((5)) sts on each side, then bind off every 2nd row: 1 x 2, 12x (13x) ((13x)) 1 st, 2 x 2, 1x (1x) ((2x)) 3 sts, and bind off the remaining 8 (10) ((10)) sts.

Finishing

Sew the shoulder seams.

On 4 mm needles, work the cardigan button band in double knitting:

Pick up 280 sts, catching 1 yarn over on the needle after each picked-up stitch = double the number of stitches minus 1 st.

Along the vertical edge, pick up 80 sts + yarn over each, along the neckline shaping 53 sts + yarn over each, along the back neckline 30 sts + yarn over each.

When the band measures 3 cm wide, bind off all stitches.

Sew the button on at the height of the neckline opening under the band.

Set in the sleeves, then sew the side seams and sleeve seams.
