Stitch Patterns and Charts

Gauge

2.5 pattern repeats wide x 2 pattern repeats high = 10 x 10 cm, worked with a 4 mm hook.

Important: your gauge should match the one given! Before starting, make a swatch: chain 31 sts and work 14 cm in the main stitch pattern. Then count the stitches over a 10 cm section in the middle of the swatch: if there are more than 2.5 repeats, use a larger hook; if fewer, use a smaller hook. It is more important for the width gauge to match than the length gauge.

If only one number is given in the instructions, it applies to all sizes!

Note: The vest is worked in one piece starting from the lower edge of the back, following the chart.

Instructions

With a 4 mm hook, chain 121 (141) 161 sts. Turn and work in the main stitch pattern following the chart (row 1 = wrong side row). When the piece measures 18 cm, mark for the armholes. When the piece measures approximately 20 (22) 24 cm from the marker, finish on row 5 or row 7, and leave the middle 2 pattern repeats unworked for the neckline.

Fronts

For the right front, continue working in pattern and after 20 (22) 24 cm mark again for the armhole. After working approximately 18 cm from the marker, finish on row 5 or row 7.

Work the left front to match the right front.

Edging

Work with a 3.5 mm hook following the chart provided – along the armhole edges, the right front edge, the back neckline, and the left front edge (number of stitches must be a multiple of 12 + 9 sts).

Important: before starting the lace edging, work a round of single crochet along the edges = approximately 8 sc per pattern repeat; for the back neckline, work 5 sc around each chain loop and 1 sc in each picot. Then work 1 round of double crochet = 1 dc in each sc. Continue the edging following the chart.

Finishing

Sew the side seams.

Bottom Edge Trim

Worked with a 3.5 mm hook.

Work “fans” of 11 dc with 1 ch between fans. Begin with 1 sc and work the first fan at the lower corner of the front, then continue working fans along the entire lower edge, spaced the same as the fans in the main pattern, ending with the last fan at the lower corner of the other front.
