The first one is a stretchy, red rug that fits perfectly as a cozy stool cover. The second piece features a cute panda on a blue background. This latch hook embroidery is designed for a pillowcase; after washing, the fabric becomes incredibly soft and pleasant to the touch. The third project is a rug depicting a puppy, which is also meant to be turned into a decorative throw pillow.
The fourth piece is a beautiful floral rug embroidery, and I’m going to explain exactly how I make it.
How to Make a Latch Hook Rug: Step-by-Step
- Preparing the yarn: First, I use a template — a small, measured wooden board. I wrap the yarn around it and then cut it along both edges to get perfectly equal strands.
- Creating the knot: Next, take a piece of yarn, fold it in half to create a loop, and place it on your latch hook, slipping it past the latch.
- Attaching to the canvas: Insert the hook under a thread of the rug canvas, push it past the latch, catch the yarn ends, and pull them back through the loop to secure it.
Your first knot is ready! Continue filling in the rest of the canvas in the exact same way, changing yarn colors according to your chosen pattern.
