VIDEO: DIY Felt Quiet Book for Kids – Interactive Transportation Activity Page

Create a fun, educational, and engaging DIY Felt Quiet Book (Busy Book) for your baby or toddler with this step-by-step video tutorial! In this lesson, we will make an interactive vehicle-themed activity page featuring a car, a sailboat, and a submarine attached with snap fasteners.

Materials you will need:

  • Soft base fabric: In two contrasting colors.
  • Craft felt: 6 different vibrant colors for the vehicles and details.
  • 3 snap buttons (press studs): To attach the removable felt vehicles to the page.
  • 2 buttons: For embellishing the car’s wheels.
  • Polyester fiberfill / padding (syntepon): To give soft 3D volume to the felt figures.
  • Needle, thread, scissors, and ruler.

Step-by-step crafting instructions:

  1. Cut the vehicle pieces: Cut two base silhouettes out of felt for each vehicle (car, submarine, sailboat). Cut out two small windows and two wheels for the car, two portholes and a periscope for the submarine, and one porthole/sail detail for the sailboat.
  2. Assemble and embellish the fronts: Sew the windows and small details onto the front layer of each vehicle. Sew decorative buttons onto the car’s wheels.
  3. Attach the fasteners: Sew one half of a snap button to the back layer of each vehicle silhouette.
  4. Stitch and stuff: Stitch the front and back silhouettes of each vehicle together along the edge, leaving a small gap. Add a little fiberfill inside for soft dimension, then stitch the opening closed.
  5. Prepare the page fabric: Cut one large fabric square (32×32 cm / approx. 12.6×12.6 in) and one smaller accent square (18×18 cm / approx. 7×7 in). Neatly hem or finish the fabric edges.
  6. Attach corresponding snaps: Sew the matching halves of the three snap fasteners onto the smaller fabric piece where the vehicles will be positioned.
  7. Assemble the page: Place the smaller square onto the main base fabric page and sew them together neatly. Snap your soft felt vehicles into place!
