Turning a row is an essential skill in beadwork. If you want to create wide bracelets, flat beaded panels, or geometric patterns, you will need this technique to weave multiple rows seamlessly.
Step-by-step guide to turning a row in cross weave:
- Reach the end of the row: Weave your first row of beaded cross units until you reach your desired length, stopping before the final stitch of the row.
- Position the turn beads: Instead of adding one bead to each side, string two beads onto one strand of the working line.
- Cross through the third bead: Pass both working ends through a third bead in opposite directions (criss-cross) and pull tight. Notice that the thread ends will now emerge from the side of the beadwork rather than the top.
- Complete the corner: Repeat this positioning sequence to direct your working threads straight into position for the next row.
- Weave the next row & fasten off: Follow the tutorial to weave the second row alongside the first, join adjacent beads, and neatly secure and hide the thread ends at the finish.
