VIDEO: Beading for Beginners – The Cross Weave Technique

The video tutorial, “Beading for Absolute Beginners: The Cross Weave Technique,” is dedicated to teaching you one of the most fundamental methods in jewelry making. To get started, you will only need a few basic supplies: beads, clear beading thread (or monofilament/fishing line), and scissors.

The cross weave (often associated with the Right-Angle Weave) is the most basic and simple beading technique. It takes just a few minutes to master! In this video lesson, we demonstrate all the essential steps by creating a small sample piece. To make the process as clear and visible as possible, large beads are used for the demonstration.

Here is the core principle of the cross weave method:

  1. First, string three beads onto your beading thread and slide them to the middle.
  2. Take a fourth bead and pass both ends of the thread through it in opposite directions (criss-cross). One end of the thread goes through from the left side, and the other end goes through from the right side.
  3. Pull both ends of the thread tight. You have now formed your first “cross” or four-bead unit!
  4. To continue the chain, thread one new bead onto each side of the thread (one on the left, one on the right).
  5. Take a third bead and criss-cross both ends of the thread through it, just like you did in step 2.

By repeating these steps, you can create a beautiful beaded chain of any length. As you can see, the process is very logical and easy to follow.
